I’m no movie buff, but I thought it was garbage.

1h50m into it and i’d lost interest but thought I owed it my attention so powered through - wish I hadn’t bothered.

Unfortunately not a classic, too long and a little awkward watching the old boys do their thing at times.

Some great scenes between Pacino and De Niro though. Pacino esp is some kind of genius, hard to take your eyes off him.

It is overrated.
Obviously Scorcese, De Niro and Pacino drags people in and inflates ratings.

Music similar to Goodfellas and Godfather.

The Umbertos hit felt like the hit in Godfather when Michael killed the chief of police and Sollozzo the way De Niro was narrating the scene, which I didn’t like.

I’ve not been able to concentrate on the film much tonight as I’ve been interrupted but I haven’t been too bothered.
It hasn’t gripped me and the special effects and the aging of these acting legends has been a part of that imo.

Good, but could have been great. Waaaayyy too long. Over 3 hours.

Why can't the American media these days understand that the sweet spot is either a 90/100 minute film (sharp, focussed, pacey), or a 6 part miniseries (give it time to breathe, allow the audience to pause and digest)?

Milking these things dry just ruins them.

Watched it last night and really enjoyed it. Pacino in particular was excellent but plenty of great performances. Didn't feel over long to me either. Not quite Goodfellas, but in the ballpark.

For me, it was meh/ OK until the last half hour, when it really takes off. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, but lose his soul?

I watched it the other night. It was fairly good but not amazing, it's too long and the story line wonders about. I know it's about a retired chap telling stories of the past so perhaps that's reflected in the storyline.
I couldn't get too much into the characters either, hoffa was the only one that interested me much.

It felt like it wanted to be goodfellas but failed.

Nicely shot, good music etc. But just didn’t work. Didn’t get invested in any character. Could have switched off at any time. Just didn’t quite do it.

I thought the Pacino character was Les Patterson smile

Finished it today, I kind of enjoyed it but it was a bit non-eventful

My thoughts;

- Came across as a comedy at times with the old-men walking and talking
- Blood splatter special effects were appalling imo
- Stephen Graham provided the only tension in any scenes for me
- Filming and music were great

It was nice to see the "guys" again but they should have let some younger folk act in this as the main characters

I watched it over a few nights...
Fascinating true story, kept jumping out onto the net to learn more about the characters/ events.

The CGI effects are interesting, worked well on most, but Robert de Niro just looked a bit weird most of the time, I couldn't get used to it.
The shooting scenes were a bit full on, lots of point blank shots to the head.

As this is pistonheads... there are some fabulous cars on it too.

I enjoyed it but, echoing what many have already said, Pesci, De Niro and Pacino all moved liked old men and did distract from the story. The film came 10 years too late for them, it could've been quite something with them in their prime.

Jesus what a fking mess!

Overlong, dreary, no minor character development. Pacino doing "OTT" De Niro putting in a stoic performance. Pesci always good, but tbh didn't bring any of the brooding menace he has done previously.

Sure it looks amazing, and I'm sure all the cars and dress details are on point.

But even the killing of Hoffa. The build up was overlong, and then the actual shots were over in about 3 minutes. The tempo of the film was all wrong!

The end parts in the jail. What was the point?

Its pointless to say "if you haven't seen it don't bother" cause people will want to see it. Just don't come complaining that you thought it was ste! biggrin

Just rewatched Rambo Last Blood. Now that is obviously not a quality film but at no point did I not believe Sly could still do horrible things to you in a sprightly manner.

Maybe they should've been filled with HGH.

It'll be interesting to see how this film is regarded in another few years.

I’m halfway through and I think the film is fking incredible, I’m so glad it’s long, I just don’t want to finish it, the dialogue incredible as is the storyline. I doubted this film and there’s a thread somewhere where I said the concept is silly but I was wrong.

Me and my brother love Scorsese’s films, specifically Goodfellas and Casino, we can quote nearly every single line and usually use random bits of dialogue adapted to whatever context. For example, one day my brother had to pick my dad up from the airport later on that day and over lunch, I said ‘that thing later, don’t worry about it, forget it’ implying I’ll do it, giving him relief just like Henry is relieved that Jimmy Coway decides against killing Morrie when they’re playing cards. They did kill him though but that’s another story.

Just things like that, it’s a quotable movie as The Irishman will be in years to come after I will re watch it.

Sorry I rambled on there off topic but I love the dialogue, it reminds me of Goodfellas and Casino, to be shown something with those 3 actors (Pesci, De Niro & Pacino) in such a good movie in 2019 is mind blowing. Whenever I watch Goodfellas or Casino, I feel like I’m watching it for the first time and to be given new material from Scorsese, De Niro, Pesci & Pacino in such a good package is just incredible.

A lot of people don’t like it, they think it’s too long but this film is for a specific market, a bit like Tarantino.

Sure the actors are very old and their age is showing, Pacino did go over board and you can hear him struggling to shout, De Niro is his usual timid awkward self but we’re acting like this is new, it’s always been this way!

If anybody liked this film and you haven’t seen Boardwalk Empire, be sure to give that a go because the dialogue is similar.

I wanted to like it but found it pretty average. Maybe came 10/15 years too late.
Nothing really stood out for me. Oh, apart from the De Niro / shopkeeper scene. That certainly stood out as it was laughable. Could have had that scene in the shop with the same camera angle for similar effect.
