Films that aren't on the telly anymore

Personally owned by Bob and Harvey Weinstein and therefore MIA unless they decide to sell up. Even Kevin Smith can't get at it, sell the DVD through his store or use characters from it (although he cast Matt Damon as Loki in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot as he figured they'd be too busy to sue him!)
Not available on streaming, not officially available new on disc and to my knowledge any TV rights have lapsed.
I'm sure there are lots of films lost to obscure rights issues (quite often it's problems with the soundtrack).
I think this is one of very few films mentioned in this thread that is still completely unobtainable.Personally owned by Bob and Harvey Weinstein and therefore MIA unless they decide to sell up. No idea why I found this thread, but hey?
One film I recall being on a fair bit in the past was 'The Four Feathers'...
...the 1939 version. Not seen it in years now.
It was remade in the 1970s and again in the 2000s (with Heath Ledger) but it was always this 1939 version that seemed to be on when I was a kid.
Also 'Flight Of The Phoenix', not the pale imitation of 2004, but the 1965 version with James Stewart and Richard Attenborough. Not sure what happened to either film really, although it has to be said that, with studios constantly releasing new films, we can't really expect to be shown the same old stuff year in, year out. I mean some of these new movies must be half decent, right?

Seeing a film and then tuning in to see the remake always pisses me off, the latest one was Conan.
My favourite telly channel now (I think I watch two), is Talking Pictures, it is packed with gems, I watched Ask A Policeman this week (a Gainsborough comedy), one of Will Hay's best. Alost all the films have to have a 'warning' before them.
Watched Warlords of Atlantis and The Land that Time Forgot recently as well.

Sioence of the lambs.
Their portrayal of a transgender woman as a psycotic serial killer rather then someone who is fabulous isnt very woke these days..
Likewise Dressed to Kill with a male crossdresser (M Caine starring with the lovely Angie Dickinson) as a psycho. Shame cos it's a terrific movie.Their portrayal of a transgender woman as a psycotic serial killer rather then someone who is fabulous isnt very woke these days..

Top Secret was on terrestrial tv around last xmas time IIRC & nowhere near as funny as I remember it being unfortunately.
that's why I want to re-watch it - quite a few people on PH seem to really rate it, my (dim) recollection was it wasn't as funny as the other spoofs of the era. Was wondering if my views had changed....Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
