No mention of Kung Fu Hustle?

Stephen Chows decision to go full on cartoon violence was inspired.

Over-hyped IMO.

Atomic Blonde had a good one as well. Most of the time when they put women in action films, they make the mistake of having her almost invincible, taking out much larger opponents with ease. But in this instance she takes a fair few hits in return, which coupled with the clumsy and desperate fighting making it feel a lot more believable
this is such a good point, I'm happy to watch hardass gritty realism and I'm happy to see some artistic license stylism, but when you have the hollywood signature petite pretty thing laying power shots destroying 200lb+ meat heads it gets a bit gimme a break. Give her some kung fu or whatever and at least let her fk 'em up in a plausible way, surely that's more empowering etc?
That's why female action heros often don't work in my opinion, Memorable action heros like Mad Max or John Maclane or even Luke Skywalker get the absolute crap beaten out of them, they gain our sympathy by overcoming adversity, but when hollywood makes a woman the star they often make her so competent she never appears to be in any real trouble... and tension just goes out the window....

Then they blame us "sexist" audiences for their bad writing and direction.....

That Atomic Blonde fight is good though....

Although to be fair there are plenty of male-led films that have the exact same problem (Steven Segal Syndrome). Superhero films are the worst for this, when you have a character who's literally a god or immortal, why would I be concerned about them in a fight?
I think a lot of the problem is films are just so funking rubbish today. You watch an old jean Claude van damme flick, its an enjoyable unpretentious switch brain off action movie, most action films today I find overly flashy, plastic and unsympathetic. I guess along with the honest, fun, family movie the desire to conform to the daft woke ideals is supresing individual expression and artistic integrity.

Going by the TV series of the 1970's (Minder, The Professionals, The Sweeney etc.) you could be guaranteed a good punch up and a car chase in every episode.
The first episode of The Sweeney 'Ringer' has a good fight scene at the end, part of it was real - during the first take actor Alan Lake was showing off and gave John Thaw a viscous punch which hit him very hard, stuntman Pete Brayham stepped in and gave Lake a good hiding. A second take was shot but producer Ted Childs decided to use part of the first take in the final edit, the whaling and screaming from Lake in this part where he's cowering at the back of the van was real.

Another well staged viscous seeing to occurs in the film 'Villain' during the wages blag at the plastics factory in downtown Bracknell, for the time (1970) it was pretty nasty and looks brilliant on screen...

This has an airing on Talking Pictures midnight on Friday (right after Lady Godiva Rides Again).

And you being such a peace loving sort! I've just started watching the boxset again, I'll keep an eye out for that one wink

There's another good punch up in an episode of The Sweeney called 'I Want The Man' where Dennis chases one of the villains across the tops of some loaded coal wagons at Chelsea Wharf sidings.

Surprised no one has mentioned 'The Warriors' - several great fight scenes especially the one in the subway toilets.

Dammit, didn't think of that. Great choice.
Now that I've thought out of the box, Bigwig v General Woundwort, it gets me in the feels 100%, especially as the dialogue reveals to us the deep differences in the two fighters.

Just as some others have said, Banshee is the best I've seen in a TV series. Too many excellent fights to list in that show.

For films, I like to go old school Benny the Jet vs Jackie Chan in meals on wheels is one of my favourites

Not sure if it counts as a fight but the opening car chase scene in Netflix’s 6Underground, it’s breathtaking and quite gory in places. I’m referring to it as a fight as it’s a long chase involving many cars and weapons, injuries and deaths, most of the cars being destroyed.

If it’s CGI it’s really good, if it’s real it must have cost a fortune!

Blood And Bone had some pretty good fight scenes.

However I think the best fight scene on film has to be Colin Firth and Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones' Diary. Certainty the most realistic.
