Matrix 4 on there now - won't be watching that!
Why not? It's superb. I personally think that most of the haters either a) didn't get it, b) were wanting a different sort of film and were disappointed, or c) just wanted to hate it
then watching it again and though - actually its awesome!
Top Gun Maverick was also awesome just to add, pure popcorn movie in all the right ways. Leaned in heavily on the nostalgia but did it RIGHT. Saw it in 4DX and was nearly thrown out of my seat seen it again at home and it's still brilliant.

Yeah I have to agree on Matrix 4, when seeing it in the cinema I thought it was very clever and tried to do something original with the franchise but I left a little disappointed because it wasn't what I was expecting. Watching it again at home I found myself enjoying it much more.
Indeed. I think it was not the film that the masses wanted. Kind of like how it turned out that (in-universe) a lot of people didn't actually want to be unplugged from the Matrix.
The Matrix was always meta, so I think Matrix 4 was actually very clever in how it subverted expectations and told an interesting new story. I think that was the only way Lana Wachowski was going to do the film. It's just a shame Lilly didn't want to be on board too but she decided she had moved on from there and didn't want to revisit it.
So, although it disappointed a lot of people, I think Matrix 4 is a superb film. You just have to take the red pill not the blue pill in order to enjoy it.

TG Maverick was indeed awesome. Only film in the last decade I think I've seen 3 times.

I might do the same with Matrix 4 - I remember watching it on a plane and not being particularly impressed - and I like 2 and 3. TG Maverick was indeed awesome. Only film in the last decade I think I've seen 3 times.
Loved Maverick though and still remember the first time I watched it - on a Singapore Airlines 737 MAX flying into Da Nang. Thought I'd add some jeapordy to the experience
Then watched it again on the flight back to London (A380 this time) then bought the BluRay as soon as I got back. Far preferred it to the original as well, which was basically a US Navy recruitment film....

Indeed it is, especially on the big screen. I watched the original at the pictures in 1986 and still know the young lady I took. Maverick is superb - cheesy nostalgia in just the right dose and a proper action film to boot. The Mercy (Colin Firth) is brilliant.

Absolutely no disagreement from me here. But I think comparing Maverick and Matrix4 to each other is comparing apples with oranges, and it's not a valid argument to say one or the other is the "correct" [sic] way to do a sequel as they are so different in approach. That's what I took exception to in Random_Person's reply to me. Anyway, at the end of the day it's all taste and opinion. But it's fun to discuss it and to chew the fat.

Well, I really enjoyed 3 Body Problem and felt it was some of the most original SciFi I've seen of late
Thought plot was pretty good, seem to get better as it progressed but TBH disappointed with the ending.Mars said:

Although his man cave does seem to be littered with machinery.
