I'm now on series 3 after watching 1 and 2 back to back.

Series about Cage fighters and their trainers and managers.

I really like it. Firm recommendation.
I'm about 4 episodes in but struggling with the cliches, porn-hub scenes and gratuitous topless guys flexing. The cringe is just a tad too high. laugh
I must admit I'm the same. It has a touch of Power about it, but without the irony.

The bit in the toilets where he checks himself out in the mirror, whilst 'exercising' with the woman he met in a bar, was a particularly cringe moment.

As an English man I will agree there is a bit too much of that for our taste. The good news is that the main characters all have some form of struggle which I find easier to associate with than the likes of Power and the when they kick back and have fun it's hilarious.

Finished Cursed today and came to the conclusion it is not as bad as the IMDB ratings would have you believe. Convinced all the low ratings are by people who have not actually seen it although I would add the younger audience would probably rate it higher than your average adult.

Dead To Me - quite amusing comedy with Christina Applegate. Comes in 30 minute segments with each of the (2) seasons being 10 spi's long so nice and bite sized

What has happened to Netflix of late, most of the series are aimed at teenagers and the overall quality seems to have really gone down the toilet...

In terms of original series there has always been a mixture of demographics targeted.

Hard to think they are decline when "The Crown" is still ongoing and they recently produced the excellent "Dark".

What were the good series of the past that they are now no longer making?

agree with above

i think the difference is they are not making more for a broader demographic , the good stuff is all there, just perhaps takes a bit of digging to find sometimes as it gets swamped by "trending now" stuff....

The problem with Netflix is you generally have to dig a little deeper to find their best content. Better Call Saul, When They See Us, Narcos Mexico, Sacred Games, Our Planet, Suburra: Blood on Rome, The Last Dance, Fauda , Stranger Things, Ozark, Money Heist, Chef's Table. Off the top of my head those are all very good series to come out of Netflix fairly recently (or have a new season added)

Their recent films however have not been of the same quality..

I'm sure I'm massively behind the curve but Motherland is the best sit-com I've seen since Curb started. Absolutely brilliant writing, performance and delivery and with having children the subject matter is pitch perfect.

There's nothing harder than perfect comedy and the fact so very few series live up to their promise make any that do all the more special.

I watched all of the first season on a flight. It's so brilliantly observed and I think everyone can relate to at least one character from the school gates.
Still need to finish season two. I watched the first episode and got distracted.

Netflix original films are always very hit and miss and again there they are targeting specific demographics.

For every Adam Sandler movie there is a "marriage story". It is only in the last few years that they seem to have oscar contenders (not that that is the only mark of quality) so again hard to argue that there has been a decline lately.

I think a bigger problem for Netflix is the growth of alternative streaming services which reduces the content available to them from non Netflix sources.

The Old Guard ...
Disappointing. Old 'immortal' tropes re-hashed (loneliness/outliving loved ones etc), poor story, bit at the end where a wall showed pictures of past events and people that the immortals had influenced was laughably bad. Theron looks so much better as a blonde. biggrin

Think you have proven my point. All of the shows you have listed are multiple series old, I'm talking about new series in the past year, there hasn't been anything good.

Diane Morgan is a genius. Have a look for a series called 'Cunk on Britain'. Might be on iPlayer. She plays a 'historian' called Philomena Cunk with lines like:

“One in 20 people have been a victim of crime, which means that 19 out of 20 people are criminals. No wonder we need police.”

“Alan Turing, the weird man who discovered computers, is now a national hero. People queue for ages to touch the Turing shroud.”
