The Haunting of Bly Manor - the English posh accent by almost everyone is grating.

First 25 mins and it’s like one of those cheap American made for tv films that channel 5 show.
It’s shocking, it’s really unbearable to watch/listen. Definitely won’t be finishing it.
Two episodes in. The faux accents are fecking irritating, the kids are irritating, it’s meant to be 1987 but looks like the 50s, far too much PC nonsense going on and Carla Gugino is barely in it at all so far. Hill House was good this is not.
My wife loves it so I'm also watching it and it's actually growing on me, I think we're up to episode 6 or 7 now and a lot of the jarring annoying bits from the earlier episodes are beginning to make sense now some back story is being added and some scenes that explain events from another character's point of view are added.
Still can't work out when it's supposed to be set mind.
I discovered yesterday it's 1987!

Makes the Austin Powers, swinging 60s type set they used for the first episode look even more ludicrous, but it's made mostly for Americans so I guess it looks about right to them.

Hill House was better but I still enjoyed Bly Manor, some iffy accents aside.

In the middle of Season 1 of Cobra Kai..

I have to say I’m loving every minute of it .. somehow they have managed to capture 80s cheese while still being set in current times. The characters, dialogue and soundtrack is cringeworthy but entertaining all at the same time...

Maybe I like It because I grew up on Karate Kid. If it hadn’t been a staple in my youth then not sure if i would enjoy it so much.
It's definitely a thing at my 11 daughter's school; lots of memes apparently. So it seems to have translated well.
No mercy!

Up to Ep 4 of Bly Manor

The actress playing the American keeps slipping into an Irish accent, is this intentional or not? Who knows!

The oddest thing is, she's one of the few actors using her own accent!

biggrin

The series wasn't one of the greatest but quite far from terrible.

Finished Bly Manor last night...

It's not something I'll be rushing to see again in a few years. Some decent scares in the middle, but really it's a whimsical, daytime TV drama that's a couple of episodes too long.

One interesting 'car' thing, I've got a feeling that in the scenes outside the Manor with cars, they used LHD cars (it's all filmed in North America) and flipped the image. The actors just looked a bit odd, as if they brushed their hair the other way and put backwards plates on or something... I couldn't put my finger on it.

That's what I couldn't understand, at first I thought I was hearing things but then no, she definitely speaks in an Irish accent when talking to one of the characters;

"Would ya loike a glass of water?"

The Brothers Grimsby. I’m sure it was just called Grimsby when we saw it at the flicks. It was soo cringeworthy it was brilliant. Top tip, don’t watch it in front of the family. I have also never been able to take Mark Strong seriously since....

True. I watched another episode yesterday, why does the Peppa-pig girl have to continually exclaim "splendidly splendid" in every scene? It is so fecking annoying.

Also surprised to read that Henry Wingrave's character is played by Elliot from E.T.

Russian subtitled virus disaster thing. Families trying to escape from Moscow while avoiding the infected / looting gangs. Couple of episodes in and it's fairly entertaining so far.
Was just going to mention this.
Watched the first one last night. Looks good so far. [/quotplus 1 from me as well

Perfectly splendid does get explained later on

Overall exceedingly meh, I don't think it's as bad as others have said but when compared to Hill House, proper disappointing

Jamie Fraisers arse keeps me coming back to this series biggrin

I do love Outlander, hadn't realised it was on Netflix though as last season was Prime I think. It's trashy TV but very watchable. I've still got to finish last season, it got quite difficult.

Useless fact of the day. The Grimsby bits were filmed in Tilbury. Apparently they couldn't find anywhere to portray the grimness sufficiently enough!

Excellent film, though. You get the impression it was written in a pub one night.

We're about 3/4 of the way through the first season. I keep going to switch it off, but finding it very compulsive. Not sure it's to do with Jamie's arse however hehe
