Seriously guys of all the crap that could be watched Snowpiercer is just ludicrous. What strands of logic does hurtling round the world in a very long train deliver?
For me it has to be the fact it’s not derailed.
Firstly it's based off a French graphic novel so by those standards it's sane. For me it has to be the fact it’s not derailed.
The train thing is just the basis for setting up the universe. Logic wise it's no better or worse than all sorts of other stories which play games with their setting. Mostly the train thing is about being trapped in a box by a hostile environment (like loads of space type stuff is) and the train giving an interesting structure to build a society around with the whole linear space graduated from front to back, so you can do the whole social justice thing and also have a metaphor with 'God' at one end with the nice comfy bit, and Hell filled with the suffering at the other.
Vastly better than the film too which became every more dissapointing as it went on, with a really bad ending.

Had anyone watched Seaspriacy?
Started to watch it. It turned me so sad! We live in a beautiful world and don't understand how big damage we - humans - bring to ot.Didn't think much of it at all, just a well funded David Icke type effort.
We've been watching Arrival.
It's sort of ok ish, but the plot is following a very well trodden path, aliens are here, all the hawks want to 'nuke' them and only one or two people on the face of the Earth have any clue as to how to proceed. Typical Hollywood. I was surprised to see that according to Wikipedia it was very well received.

You mean the film Arrival with Amy Adams ? How far through it have you got ? You haven't mentioned a lot of the reasons that made people think it was very good indeed. (Including me).

I thought the same, it was pretty forgettable.I like this review, ''"latest exercise in pretentious poopery", sort of sums it up, . Rated top film of 2016,
Make me care about the central characters, and their romance, then the ending will be powerful. As it was I didn't care and so the ending was just an interesting intellectual twist rather than something with a great emotional impact.

The oceans are still very lawless, once in international waters a ship is supposed to be governed by the flag it is registered too, but some very small nations have large fleets and no way or indention of enforcing any rules. China has a huge fleet which are taking so much out the ocean, often from smaller countries, while some ships accused of illegal fishing simply paint a new name on their hull when entering port and forge some documents, before turning up elsewhere as a completely different ship. It is organised crime, people trafficking and environmental destruction all in one, yet the international community turns a blind eye because it happens outside of their national waters. Whatever we in the UK do, there needs to be more of an international effort to at least enforcing the existing rules, rather than making people in the West feel guilty about enjoying a farmed salmon. Overall it was interesting and eye-opening, but not worth watching twice. 7/10.
He was never going to get an interview going in so gung ho with the accusations.
Was an eye opener though, it actually made me appreciate why Greenpeace are dropping those huge boulders in the channel.

The basic train concept is batst. However, once you accept that the train exists and it works then the rest of the story is pretty well done. I just finished tonight and it was enjoyable although I struggled a bit in the middle act.The train thing is just the basis for setting up the universe. "Spycraft" - a bit American focused and some "false jeopardy" for the cameras, but interesting look at how espionage and spying happens between countries. Lots of knowledgeable people including several retired CIA staff explain what goes on. Biggest take-away has been just quite how much espionage there is, and quite how many people are prepared to betray their own homeland states if provided with money, goods or sex.
Worth a watch if you like that sort of thing,. 7.5/10.

Yes - watched the first 2, knew some things, a lot I didn't know. Covers plenty of things, in quite a bit of detail. Worth a watch if you like that sort of thing,. 7.5/10.
Pretty much agree with 7.5/10.

If you liked them I would carry on. There are several great episodes including one on covert communications, one about special forces (Navy Seals, Delta Force etc), and one which touches on how much information Edward Snowdon gave to the Chinese and Russians which come later. Very eye opening. Some of the episodes are not as good but it's still worth a watch. Pretty much agree with 7.5/10.
Haven't trawled through all of the pages yet so apologies if this is old hat now but A Very Secret Service is cracking.
Set in France at the start of the sixties, it's basically Frencher, camper, live-action Archer. Very corny but very fun.
Only two series' too so not too much of a chore to get into it and have to watch a gazillion episodes for the denouement.

Sounds great, I love Archer. Set in France at the start of the sixties, it's basically Frencher, camper, live-action Archer. Very corny but very fun.

Talking of which, Season 11 is *still* not available in the UK.

Thunder Force - don't just don't.
I like a lot of what Melissa McCarthy has done - yes it's lightweight/fluff but, on the whole, I found it funny enough. TF is, however, total toss.
2/10 (and one of those is for the soundtrack which I really enjoyed)
LOL, watched it last night with the wife, it was OK for turn your mind off entertainment. I like a lot of what Melissa McCarthy has done - yes it's lightweight/fluff but, on the whole, I found it funny enough. TF is, however, total toss.

Trial By Fire though, very good. It's based on a well known (in America) American murder and arson case, I won't spoil it so won't say too much; house fire, three child deaths, the investigation and the children's father.
The wife spoiled it for herself (she can't help it), by looking up the case and events whilst watching it, I didn't and until right at the end I didn't know how it was going to pan out.
