I don't know what it is like living in tower blocks, written off by society, all based on your skin colour and how it makes you feel.

There are a hell of lot without a voice that counts, at least singing is a better role model than drugs and gangs which to a lot are the only options. Poverty is increasing, there is a divide that impacts all colours.

Presumably you didn't see Harry Styles dressed as Liberace's Decorator then.

He was also stood in a lake. Must have got his flares soaking wet.

Dave isn't really my cup of tea but you can't say his performance was 'talentless' - I thought it was quite powerful. The improvised political points scoring at the end was a bit unnecessary though.

Nice to see Foals get some recognition too.

Flicked on to this and saw the beginning and had it on in the background and saw Harry Styles* wearing, well, whatever the hell that was and the woman who was either trying to be Beyonce or someone who'd eaten Beyonce and all her backing singers and then turned off.

* On the other hand, I actually searched out Harry Styles singing Big Yellow Taxi on Radio 2 last week and thoroughly enjoyed that smile

Quite, that's why I got the album.
I meant his 'PM is a racist etc' [which many a 60's folk singer did as well] bit, that doesn't help heal division or promote a calmer perspective does it - and yes, I know stupid things are said on both sides of that fence. But as I said, that's what these guys [stars] do. Popularity doesn't bring with it complex insight though, just a particular viewpoint, as many a politician can attest.
Music has provided a good path for people [read his backstory] but it has also created a lot of violence between factions 'on the street'.
And yes, I would completely agree about the balancing of society, too equal and it's gulags to enforce the equality, too far apart and it's the guillotine.

Music has moved on, I was mid rant to the mrs last night about how crap I think rap is when I remembered my dad having the same rant about punk.
Shut me up proper quick but reminded me of when you could tell what music other kids liked by their gang or the way they dressed, punks, teds, rockers, hippies, mods, New Romantics- happy days.

I absolutely hate it when singers/rappers use their 15 minutes of air time to promote political agendas.
That has pretty much been the point of songs since time immemorial.
Life and death and love (also religion I'm guessing) are far more important than politics and will have formed the basis of most songs over millenia.

I don't comment on people based on their colour, if that puts me on the moral high ground then so be it

I can appreciate a site full of old farts like this one not getting modern music, its a generational thing, some of the comments are so obviously stemming not from the modernity of the music but more the ethnicity of the perfomer/backup dancers, its not an unusual thing to see on PH it is still a shame though

Whether you like him or not if you actually listen to this barring the accusation of Boris being racist at the end this to me is powerful and many of the lyrics unfortunately true to this day and having seen and experienced the inherent racism in the Police and online I hope and look forward to a day when its not a conversation anymore, whether that will occur in my lifetime I dont know

Wait a minute, I don't know what your definition of a "racist" is, but mine would include someone calling black people "picaninnies with watermelon smiles" and then trying to brush it off as "satire". You don't heal division by pandering to extreme views. You call them out, you say that such language is unacceptable from anyone, let alone our Prime Minister. the fact that he won't apologise is abhorrent.

I would also disagree that music has ever "created violence on the street", it is a place holder for a faction. Punks beating up hippies had nothing to do with music other than the fact that the "factions" liked different genres of music. It's like saying religion or football causes violence. It doesn't, people cause violence, religion, football, music are just convenient excuses used by people who want to incite violence as a way of pointing out the otherness of different people.

Protest songs form a major part of world music, so to claim that you hate it when singers promote political agendas it rules out a large area of music, unless what Nezquick is objecting to is only when a particular group air their grievances.

Are you of the gammon tendency yourself or are you getting offended on behalf of others?

It’s a new PHs political correctness thing, If you’re intolerant of others intolerance or bigotry, you’re now an intolerant bigot yourself plus a hypocrite.

Plus saying gammon is now racist (and ageist) even though you might be white or pink and old and it’s actually more about behaviour anyway.

I asked the kids jokingly to guess how many times Mrs PB would say 'who?' during the course of the programme . . . then found myself doing it!

It is what it is and always has been - mostly inoffensive and really just there for the industry to give themselves a pat on the back.

We recorded it because we're very late to the Modern Family party and are working our way through that. Fast-forwarding through the celebs who overdo their bit, or when Whitehall's jokes miss, does improve the viewing process somewhat.

Bring Me The Horizon was robbed.
