I wasn't alive during the miners strikes so I didn't comment in something I had no experience of (something many on here could perhaps also try)If there were songs made by the miners and those songs were derided and the miners were institutionally singled out for abuse and unfair treatment then I would have been in support of them, wholeheartedly
Again if that puts me on a horse so be it, I sleep well at night knowing I try my best to be a decent and nice person, sorry if you find that offensive

Is this something you have experienced? Were you charged?
We can all see the pathetic casual racism. When I lived in South London I saw the actions of the police first hand. But I am white so I never got charged.
That was some time ago, couldn't really comment on what happens now other than to say Dave is a more credible commentator than Pretti Patel.

Protest songs form a major part of world music,
You mean popular rap music don't you? Not classical, not jazz, not folk (although I've heard some) not rock, not even dance music. In fact protest songs are a niche within popular music. Where's the major part? Jazz, no protest songs? John Coltrane - Alabama, Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit, Gil Scott-Heron - The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
Folk? Really? Bob Dylan? Woody Guthrie? Pete Seeger?
Rock? Come on man... Dylan again! Rolling Stones - Undercover of the Night, Beatles - Revolution, Creedence - Fortunate Son, Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen!
Soul? Marvin Gaye - What's Going On, Edwin Starr - War, Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come
You're not confused fella, you just don't know much music.

He probably thinks Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen is a patriotic singalong

I thought Dave was passionate, but st and I like Stormzy. I'm sure there is some basis for his rant, but compared to what it was like in the 70s/80s, he hasn't a clue.
He also gave a shout to prisoners. They're there for a reason.
So better than the 80s means 'all ok now, nothing to see here "?He also gave a shout to prisoners. They're there for a reason.
Stormzy? Meh. Jumped the shark a bit with the totty with their arses out and rain indoors seems to be his thing now.
Dave? Great performance but attacking BoJo after Stormzy did May just seems a bit copycat.
The huge girl in the skimpy outfit (showing my age but I can't recall her name but know the songs from telly) started off good but her lack of cardio let her down half way though-she was out of breath and no wonder. Not sure if her backing dancers came from the local type 2 diabetes support group either.
To be honest I find it more embarrassing that the Brits seem to have adopted grime as their cause to show how "down with the kids" they are than anything grime does itself. "look at us, all inclusive and everything!" when the Brits is a shallow excuse to promote whatever they need to sell more of.
Lewis Capaldi is this year's pub singer, taking george Ezra's crown in a long line of singer "song writers" for teenage love sick girls (thank you Ed).
I know I took the piss out of Harry's white outfit but the wife walked in and seeing him in the later yellow outfit asked "Oh, is that Prince!"

I'm no expert on Classical but I would imagine that some Opera would include politcal messages certainly Gilbert and Sullivan "Operetta" like HMS Pinafore are political satire.
It's comic opera. Not an operetta, and it pokes fun at lots of topics. However racism isn't one of them.Rumblestripe said:

That's three tracks out of hundreds of thousands. I quite like Coltrane BTW, the vast canon of his work has nothing whatsoever to do with political messages. Billie Holliday didn't write Strange Fruit and Gil Scott Heron was more of a poet than a musician, a forerunner of rap, if you call that music Rumblestripe said:

You've named three out of, again, hundreds of thousands. I know the worlds a small place... but honestly it's not that small!Rumblestripe said:

I'll refer you to the answer above about folk.Rumblestripe said:

Well done, four songs What's that? There's only a few more anyway? Rumblestripe said:
