Greyhound - new Tom Hanks WWII film
Discussion
Just watched it. I'm not a fan of CGI but it was bearable. Decent enough film but not one to watch again. Some hyperbole but not as bad as much American stuff - I was pleased they didn't cast the Royal Navy as incompetent buffoons as in so many US depictions. Captains of US destroyers got ham and eggs for a meal - RN corvettes got a corned beef sandwich soaked in seawater. Nasty place to be in period.
Have to say thought it was pretty solid.
Captured the relentlessness of the situation perfectly, some lovely touches without it being all clap happy, the knowing looks to crew, the bit with the slippers and the final scene where he just gives up and goes to bed,
hanks makes it as you might expect, but the youth of the crew is what got me, all about 20! You can just imagine it being so tough.
Only real failing was the pointless Uboat radio interceptions, that was not needed and likely did not happen.

I thought it was a solid film, but marred by the ludicrous actions of the Uboats; they were designed to stealthily attack convoys, not surface right in front of destroyers and corvettes then decide to go toe-to-toe with them armed with just a deck gun and some 20mm flak guns.
Despite the silliness of the Uboats, it was exciting and non-stop, makes a change to have a film that almost immediately starts with the action and then just continues to the end, although I do wonder what the point of having Elizabeth Shue in it (as Hank's wife) was, apart from the minute or two she's on screen - perhaps another storyline that was cut from the film?
Overall an enjoyable WW2 naval flick though, worth a watch.

I got to this one today. I really quite enjoyed it as an action romp. I know bits about the Atlantic convoys but enough to know that this was fairly representative of the challenges faced, albeit compressed in to a couple of hours. Anyhow Hanks is always watchable, I noticed that he was credited with the screenplay, so a bit of a pet project? For me the effects were in no way jarring, it’s always difficult to achieve realistic water-based malarkey and this was just fine. I didn’t watch it to pick holes.
One to watch again one day.

We have an Apple+ TV subscription, but can't find this on search. Either by the film name or a search for Tom Hanks films. This is through the Sky app.
What am I doing wrong? Has it been released onto another streamer?

You'd think a Samsung tablet should be able to cast to a Samsung TV but seems like not.

I can find it on the tablet's Apple+ app, but not the Apple+ app on Sky. Rest of family don't want to crowd round my Samsung tablet, though thinking about it, watch on laptop and connect to TV with HDMI cable, might work.

Just went via my Sky to the Apple + app and here it is. You'd think a Samsung tablet should be able to cast to a Samsung TV but seems like not.
