I remember seeing Ben Elton on a stand up tour in the late 80s/early 90s and I laughed so hard I could hardly breathe. Whether my tastes changed I don't know but I stopped finding him funny and he probably realised being an author was a decent career move.

Ben Eltons wife is an Australian and he spends a large portion of his year down under. Less TV work for Ben but he is seen on stage frequently.

... Yes, oddly I saw a tweet from Victoria Coren Mitchell about him the other day... he's been stuck down under since before covid and had to cancel his whole UK tour that he started just before...

Ben Elton is on Sunday Brunch on CH4 right now.

Drives a Ford Galaxy and has had trips in the Mclaren F1s of George Harrison and Rowan Atkinson apparently.

There you go.

In a very recent interview in the Telegraph he said he respects Thatcher for her commitment to what she believed in.

A man who built his career on being anti establishment and anti "Mrs Thatch". I wonder if he feels the same about Hitler. He was committed to what he believed in too.

I mention him yesterday and then he suddenly appears on TV today. I'll take full credit for that one. Anyone else you lot want to suddenly see on TV again, let me know? biggrin

I was about to make some quip about him being a bit smelly by now, and popped over to Wikipedia to look up when he died only to find that he is still alive. Blimey.

I was sure he had died years ago.

Hasn't he moved abroad somewhere? I recall an interview where he'd acquired that nation's twang.

Ah yes. Wikipedia says he splits his time between UK and Australia.
For tax purposes, perhaps.

Or perhaps because he is married to an Australian?
Don’t let facts get in the way of a cheap dig though.
