They haven't made any new Extra Gear shows for two years now, not since Joey left.

I remember going to the Edinburgh Comedy Festival years ago and in the basement of a pub I watched a pair of comedies that were very funny, one did their stand up act followed by the other. I later realised that they were indeed Rhod Gilbert and Mark Watson.

That same day I was also sat in the front row of Rob Brydons 'Keith Barret' show, where he and the audience took delight in poking fun at me for a T-shirt I was wearing, with me having to stand up and turn around to show the whole theatre. He come over and shook my hand afterwards, but I think that was more to do with my being 6' 3" tall and over 20 stone :-)

About 8 years ago I managed to get a ticket to see Rhod Gilbert do a show at a small comedy club in Leeds where he was trying out material before he took it on a national tour of big venues. He must have done about 2 hours and it was the best gig I've ever been to.

I'm sure there was an "inappropriate texting" incident that took him off The One Show, much like it did for Jason Manford IIRC.

I looked it up after posting and it did seem that way. Pity really, I seem to recall him being fairly good at what he did. Bet he's kicking himself, along with everyone else who's been on to a winner and thrown it away.

Yes, I saw him on the Goodwood show at the weekend. It reminded me that he's a much better and more knowledgeable presenter than that Paddy McGobste on TG.
