Enjoying watching it but suprised at some of the rough and ready angle grinding showering sparks all over the defender and a few other things already mentioned such as working off axle stands etc. Some info on the cooling system for the motor would have been interesting. The machining and diff replacement was all subbed out, but overall it looked a decent project by the end.
Did they let out how much it had cost all up?

I thought they mentioned £10k cost of the motor plus they mentioned £17k cost of the batteries, then whatever they charge for their craftsmanship to fit it all.

They mentioned £3k for the bespoke gear sets and mods by that outsourced engineering company.

So, that's £30k were at so far.....

I reckon the final invoice was somewhere north of £40k for that conversion.

It was interesting to see another defender in the background, not sure what they were doing with it.

Also I wonder why it ended up on different wheels maybe a gearing issue.

It also sounded awful, could do with some soundproofing to hide the whine.

Probably just to fit some decent offroad tyres for that sequence, and without damaging the customers 22" lo-pros, which would have been st offroad anyway.

I did think that but they showed it at the end on the standard steel wheels.

I did also wonder in regards to off road, how it would fair at wading, guessing no chance with all the electrics.

I think they just fitted some Landy steelies and off-road tyres for the off-road test, as the owner fitted blingy alloys and road tyres on it weren't going to be up to that task.

It did amuse me that at the finish it still had the air intake snorkel fitted which made me laugh.

You're complaining about whine in a Land Rover? hehe

I think I'd fit a fake exhaust pipe just to confuse people! biggrin

Wonder if it still leaks oil?

Good god, the Speedster being supported by only a jack this week, whilst they're clouting the end of the rear radius arm.

That's just basic safety being ignored. I'd be worried if this was a showcase of my work

I was watching the Karmann Ghia episode on catchup last night and they were actually using a vehicle lift while they were removing the gearbox.

Made me laugh when they said it would be an ideal weekend car. There was absolutely no room for any bags whatsoever.

So the Beetle based Chesil required a super duper special gearbox to deal with the torque, yet the Beetle based Karmann Ghia was fine with the standard box. Hmm.

Yes, that struck me as well, not even any room behind the front seats any more. As for working on the jack, there could be other stands out of shot. When he did the brake test, it didn't look to me like it was pulling up all that quickly, but I guess it's hard to tell from the interior shot.

Watched this earlier on catch up, did wonder about the gearbox and also what was the sense in driving all the way too Germany, have these places never heard of carriers.

Also working underneath a car only supported on a jack, madness

Plus we are expected to believe that Pedro drove the car the 75 odd miles back to Westfield

Did not know until watching this however that Westfield now own Chesil Motors, maybe they requested an uprated gearbox

I think this program is getting worse as it goes along

The Karmann-Ghia was similar. They used up all the "frunk" and also the luggage space behind the folding rear seats. (All mounted rather higher up than purpose built EVs)

Oh, and Moggy said with the improved weight distribution it now handles like a Porsche 914 of the same era and he could go into corners 20mph faster than before the conversion. Impressive stuff eh? scratchchin
