I remember a UK series in the early 90s called Chimera, about scientists creating a hybrid of man and ape. Remember it being fairly dramatic in my early teens.

I remember that. I've looked it up and can't find who played the hybrid but was it Warwick Davis inside the suit/make up? I may be misremembering or getting mixed up with something else.

Elidor anyone? Children's sci-fi series but quite odd, I don't remember it particularly well but always thought it was advanced/interesting for kids TV. The same could probably be said about Earthfasts; perhaps Archer's Goon too.

Dream On

80s American comedy about the adventures of a recently divorced man. Very funny, quite rude! Was shown late at night on Channel 4 I think, it’ll be a challenge finding it now.
I was thinking about this the other day, I was a big fan as a teen; I seem to remember it 'broke the fourth wall', which is another concept I like.

Who Dares Wins : Tony Robinson, later of Time Team, appearing stark bk naked in front of a live TV audience in the Emperor's New Clothes sketch.
I did like Who Dares Wins. One of their panda sketches springs to mind.

Panda approaches a man sitting in the audience: “Is that your girlfriend?”
Man: “Yes.”
Panda: “Mate with her! Go on, mate with her! See, it’s not that easy, is it?”
How have i never heard of Who Dares Wins? I used to love Jimmy Mulville and Rory McGrath in Chelmsford 123.

Edge of Darkness. The original 1985 one with Bob Peck and Joe Don Baker, music by Eric Clapton.
Bird of Prey. Richard Griffiths. 1982.
The Beiderbecke Affair / Tapes / Connection. James Bolam, Barbara Flynn. 1985+

All cold-war intrigue themed, but in 3 very different ways. The Beiderbecke trilogy in particular being witty and has the benefit of Barbara Flynn.

Talking of which:
A Very Peculiar Practice - Set in the medical centre of a university in the early 80s. Slightly surreal and quite dark at times.
The Beiderbecke trilogy was a favourite of mine, wish they would repeat original programs like this on TV . I am sure I saw Barbara Flynn on tv recently, for the life of me cannot recall which program it was.

Ta - watched the trailer, looks really good... reminds me of a film from a few years ago called 'Vallanzasca', based on true events in Italy in the '70s and '80s.

Romanzo Crimale! I forgot about that show. It is decent. Think I watched it on Sky Atlantic pre Netflix/Amazon Prime.

Which reminds me of another show from back then: Treme.

Set in New Orleans after the hurricane hit. Not amazing but I quite liked it.

Boss - with Kelsey Grammer as a Chicago Mayor with some sort of brain disorder, absolutely brilliant, it's a shame they didn't do more than a couple of seasons.

Nightingales with Robert Lindsay and David Threlfall was brilliantly macabre. Chelmsford123 was brilliant too.

The Kettering Incident is one of the best things I've ever watched, it had me gripped right until the end. It's properly unnerving.

A synopsis: Anna Macy left Kettering when she was just fourteen, shortly after her best friend (and paternal half-sister), Gillian Baxter, mysteriously disappeared. The two girls had been cycling through the forbidden forests outside Kettering when they saw strange lights in the sky. Eight hours later, Anna was found alone, terrified and covered in blood.
Thanks - needed something to watch. Just found somewhere to get it - 1 series, 8 episodes.

I have out of hours work to do this week, so I'll start watching next week.

Simon Callow was in a comedy series back in 1984 called Chance In A Million. I've never seen it since but it was brilliant - especially the way he seems to down a pint in the middle of a sentence:

This thread has reminded me of so many good TV shows which I’d forgotten.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned Private Schulz. 1980s WW2 comedy drama starring Michael Elphick as a German soldier.
