'Sledge Hammer' from the late 1980's

Boardwalk Empire

Original Utopia

Red Riding

Preacher

Beastars

Brilliant Netflix anime about anthropomorphic animals living in a world were carnivores and herbivores live together and repress their instincts. Beautifully shot, very dark, and works on a lot of levels. Not suitable for kids (too much bunny rape...)

First 90 seconds sets the tone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEeHJoYycMM
Good shout on SledgeHamme, have to have a look at some of the rest,

Fantastic show and the cars...yum
How many series are there...? Just found series 1 & 2 on Amazon, think I'll give it a whirl wink
Two,mate. Let me know what you think. I obviously loved it. Very gritty.
Romanzo Crimale! I forgot about that show. It is decent. Think I watched it on Sky Atlantic pre Netflix/Amazon Prime.

Which reminds me of another show from back then: Treme.

Set in New Orleans after the hurricane hit. Not amazing but I quite liked it.
Both series arrived from Amazon this yesterday so I started watching series one last night, three episodes in a row, loving it so far. The cars... blimey the cars...! Period Fiats, Alfas, Lancias, BMWs, Porsches, Citroens and Renaults everywhere, a gorgeous Innocenti Mini Cooper for one of the main characters, not to mention the vans and trucks in the background.... great stuff beer

Monkey Dust was the funniest black comedy series ever.

I also liked a short-lived US comedy called The Grinder. Check out the preview here to get the idea:

I've whizzed right through series one, it's brilliant! A bit slow in places but it gives you time to take it all in. As said before, the cars are great - I've noticed the same pale metallic green Alfa Giulia coupe popping up everywhere and the period clobber is pretty much spot on, in some cases I htought Iwas watching an old '70s 'Politzia' film.... hehe. Something else of note is that not all of the cars are pristine, which makes a nice change in period dramas like this.

Looking forward to series two!

Both seasons of this are on the Arrow TV Amazon channel, along with a lot of other Scandi crime type stuff like The Bridge. 7 days free trial then £4.99 per month. Might give it a go smile

No, I mean there is a cult TV series called Modern Toss which is particularly brilliant.

It's the stink of excellence in a world gone tits up.

Eerie Indiana was also a bit odd but fun to watch.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eerie,_Indiana

I remember the 18th episode where he goes behind the scenes, (from Wiki):

"Marshall finds a television script in the mail and suddenly finds himself behind the scenes of Eerie, Indiana where his friends and family are the actors and actresses on the show and everyone refers to him as Omri Katz".

“I don’t want Mr Skatey, I want Mr Hoppy!!!”

The ending to the first series still gives me chills. Ivan Dobsky and Pulps ‘Sunrise‘....

So there's a film as well as the TV series? Which comes first in the story?

To be honest I don't know. I've got the first series arriving on Thursday and the film was so cheap, it seemed rude not to get that too.

I'll read the reviews on Amazon to see which to watch first. hehe

I finished watching both series a couple of nights ago - really good throughout, slow in places but with some good twists and corners turned in the story. And the cars, did I mention the cars....? Alfas, Fiats, and the odd Lancia abound and once it gets to 1982 one of the villains turns up in a Bitrubo era Maser.

Sad to see the blue and white Innocenti Cooper get chucked down the ravine just like in The Italian Job...!

Wasn't aware of the film - looks like it has a different cast to the series, will order it and have a shuftie.

A few randoms that (I think) haven't popped up yet...

Orphan Black - clones, lots of clones. Lead actress puts in a huge amount of work.

Ash vs Evil Dead - what it says on the tin. Proper film continuation with all the right people involved, only bad(-ish) point is they changed their planned story arc mid-way.

12 Monkeys - a much expanded and better version of the film. Proper story, evolves as it goes, all hangs together and unlike some does eventually get a proper ending.

Almost Human - Karl Urban police thing with androids.

Get Shorty - Take a wild guess. A pair of cartel enforcers get into the movie business.

American Gothic - bit of an old one but good supernatural thing. Evil sheriff is basically the devil manipulating people among other things. Difficult to explain!

Dexter - Serial killer works in police forensics. Watch Season 1, 2 and 4 and ignore the rest.

Continuum - time travel thing, complicated to explain.

Dominion - TV continuation of the film Legion - angry angels have brought the apocalypse. Better than it might sound.

From Dusk Til Dawn - again take a wild guess...

Penny Dreadful - gothic horror, I prefer the first two seasons.

Person of Interest - omniscient AI helps predict and prevent crime, evolves into a proper big dystopian exploration of the nature of AI and the surveillance state.

Van Helsing - like a decent version of The Walking Dead, but with vampires.

Probably more but can't remember and would have to go digging for.

I recall enjoying "Attachments", the BBC dotcom drama thing, though I imagine if I watched it back now it wouldn't have aged well.

Yes, Person of Interest was great. And nice that it had a proper ending, rather than just disappearing.

Just found Catterick on YouTube smile . One series on BBC with Vic & Bob, Matt Lucas, Reece Shearsmith, Morwena Banks. Very Vic & Bob weird and silly, generally about Bob Mortimer's character coming back to Catterick to find his son. https://youtu.be/KVrcNXm0z3Y
