Just found Catterick on YouTube smile . One series on BBC with Vic & Bob, Matt Lucas, Reece Shearsmith, Morwena Banks. Very Vic & Bob weird and silly, generally about Bob Mortimer's character coming back to Catterick to find his son. https://youtu.be/KVrcNXm0z3Y
My favourite vic and bob - wonderful stuff. That moment with the guide dog collection box laugh
googled and found complete episodes on YT, watched the first 2 last night and reckon i'll binge the rest tonight, thanks!

mine would be 'maniac' on netflix. great cast [jonah hill, emma stone, hank azaria, sally field, justin theroux, gabriel byrne, etc], visually fantastic and a joy to watch. starts off left field to begin with but takes a massive turn a few episodes in and goes its own way thereafter. one of the best contained series ever imho, doesn't leave even a glimmer of a sequel on the table.

very few people seem to have seen it though, i don't know anyone in my friend group who has despite my many repeated recommendations.

For something offbeat, I recommend The Middleman.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErwMV4kXXfc

Based on the graphic novels by Javier Grillo-Marxuach and Les McClaine and full of daft situations and excellent wordplay in a covert hero / sci-fi background.

Huge amounts of fun and only 12 episodes were made.

Millenium: Lance Henriksen is Frank Black ex FBI who sees demons and works with the Millenium group to investigate a plot to end the world at the turn of the century. Made by the same people who made X Files. There was even a crossover episode.

Ultraviolet: 6 episodes of UK vampire hunting. One of Idris Elba's first big roles.

I think I have that on DVD somewhere. Not watched it for at least 20 years. I remember it being an interesting take on the subject, but not something I would recommend as ‘good’.

I didn’t think I’d like it, and I’m still unsure about the celebrity cameos that pop up but it’s very well written and all three main actors do very well.

Fort Salem - an alternate history thing where the US has ended up with witches working as the Army when the witch trials took an unexpected turn. Currently on iPlayer

Actually pretty good for what's ultimately a 'young adult' show made by Disney, they took a concept, stuck with it, some strong storylines and it went with dark, uncomfortable and gory rather than it being light fluff.

Only criticism is you could definitely see the joins in the last episode & a half of the third when they weren't renewed and had to squeeze in completing the story which was probably intended to finish with a season 4. Some very abrupt plot points put in to skip from A to B, but they did take it to the intended conclusion.

Quarry - set in Memphis in 1972 when a guy comes back from the war and gets drawn into criminality.

Worth a look even though they only made 8 episodes. Really good stuff.

'Barbarians'

In the same vein as Vikings, or The Last Kingdom, it's about Romans and the Germanic tribes.

It's in ze German, but if you don't mind subtitles,or dubbing, it's fine.

Very good series.

Also another vote for Norsemen. As grittily filmed as Vikings, but top drawer humour!

I think one of the best things about Banshee is that it has a proper series finale that concludes all the story lines.

American Gothic (1995)

I watched this on C4 as a kid and was hooked, I managed to find it about 10 years ago and watched all over again and wasn't disappointed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Gothic_(199...

The story takes place in the fictional town of Trinity, South Carolina, and revolves around Caleb Temple (Lucas Black) and the town's corrupt sheriff, Lucas Buck (Gary Cole). Though appearing affable and charismatic, Sheriff Buck is a murderous rapist whose power base is backed by apparent supernatural powers, which he generally uses to manipulate people to "fulfill their potential" and make life-changing choices (usually for evil).

Millenium had a lot more to it than that, i remember one episode being about a Russian Cop tracking a Mobster who turned out to be the Russian equivalent of Satan and was in the US.

Another episode was about some guy who worked in a slaughter house and started murdering women after stunning them etc blah blah.

It was a fantastic series for the first series, think series two went a bit weird and then came back towards normal in the third series iirc

I remember watching that as a kid as well. Can’t remember if it was resolved or was one of those series that went nowhere with the premise.

Wasn’t the sheriff supposed to be the devil, and Caleb his son?

Ed

Used ot be on channel 4 years ago, about an Amercian lawyer whose office was in a bowling alley. I used to be hooked, then it vanished and was never to be seen again. Not even on DVD.
