Dirty Granpa - how does this not get a higher rating on imdb?

Plucked clean out the air as i’m away from my wife at the mo and it had my laughing start to finish, DeNiro is brilliant, girls just lovely, an old story line but a goody and delivered with material ive not heard or seen before, even Zac was better than his recent crap as wrestler.

Probably best for the dirty granpas in here (which are many) and not so much a couple watch

Loved it, shame on imdb.
Fancied seeing this. Only available for rent on sky @£2.99, so bought a blu ray copy off the bay for £2.30 scratchchin

Civil War.

Intense, emotional, thought provoking, chilling. Bloody loved it. Just shows was a brilliant director can do with a relatively small budget (compared to the massive budget super hero nonsense).

8.5/10
Watched it this evening and agree - impressive
Just watched this on IMAX and also agree. Very thought provoking and brilliant performances throughout.

Three Musketeers part 1 - D'Artagnan 2023

Watched this the other night having missed it last year. A French film that could have been made in the sixties in terms of structure, plot, narrative etc. Really good fun, extremely watchable and Eva Green too - what's not to like.

Part 2, Milady (Green's character) is out now so I'm looking forward to seeing this too - I presume the films were made back to back.
Ah I really wanted to see this, please to hear it's good as the trailers looked excellent. Never did see anything about Part 2 though did it go straight to streaming?

The wife's been away for a few days so watched a few things on Prime she probably wouldn't be interested in

Road House , the new one rather than the original. I recall enjoying the original, but it was a long time ago I last saw it. Never expect much from a remake but I was pleasantly surprised. Gyllenhaal was believable as Dalton, and the fight scenes were done reasonably well. Connor McGregor is no actor, and his stupid strutting walk was really annoying, but fair play to him for playing a character that was an ahole and loses the final flight, I believe some WWE types have a big enough ego to have it in thier contract that they never lose a fight. I can see him doing ok in some similar roles to Arnie in the 80's.

Freelance, John Cena turned out to be a better actor than I expected. Reasonable plot, some decent fights, plenty of very dodgy military tactics. Decent B movie in my opinion.

R.I.P.D, Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Bacon managing to merge the rookie/buddy cop genre with Ghost and Ghostbusters. I'd never even heard of this one before despite the pretty well known cast. Surprisingly entertaining.

I think Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham have that clause that they can't lose a fight.

I've read Vin Diesel has as well, and that's supposedly why the relationship between Dwayne and Vin went south after one of the Fast films.

Jurassic World Dominion... I had such high hopes when I saw the cast.
I no longer have those hopes.

All of them after the original Jurassic Park were poor (and even then you have to ignore that most of the dinosaurs in it are from the Cretaceous period).

This was a proper heartbreaker for me, Jurassic Park is on my Mount Rushmore of films, the film that got me into cinema as a kid and one of my most vivid memories of film. I have seen it more times than I care to count, have owned every version they've released and I actually thought The Lost World was a very good follow up, with even JP3 having redeeming qualities (well, it still Dinosaurs!).

I really liked Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom, with the latter bringing some horror back to the franchise and some old school rich people doing bad things tropes. Dominion promised so much and had all the right ingredients but it was just a mess from top to bottom. I had to see it twice as I now take my Mum to see the new JP films (as she introduced them to me) and I dreaded it. On second viewing once you know how disappointing it is, there are a few scenes to enjoy. The Dilophosaurous are excellent. Jeff Goldblum is fun. But that's it really. They ruin almost every character, even Rexy.

As with all franchises I hear they'll be doing more of them, which I'll still be there to see on day 1 but I'll always be angry at Dominion for wasting its potential.

Chris Pratt isn't a great actor to be honest, I can't take him seriously in an action role, even the Jurassic series that aren't supposed to be too 'serious'

As with a lot of these films, the Pitch Meeting is better than the film. smile

Another 48hrs

So after only recently (last week?) watching the first on recommendation from here I went ahead with the sequel. I think this is one of those rare instances where the sequel is better than the original! I really enjoyed this, with an 8 year ago between the films you'd think it'd be a stretch to continue the story picking right up after the first one but it actually works really well. Both Nolte and Murphy are so much more comfortable in their characters especially Murphy who's able to still play it straight but get some genuine laughs in there. Nolte is even better as the loose canon cop this time even closer to losing his badge. The dynamic between the two of then feels much more natural and less forced as I felt it did in the original. There was no fun watching Nolte's character hate Murphy's for pretty much the entire film last time.

IMDB has this rated lower than the original but I strongly disagree, I had far more fun watching this than the first. Everything felt much improved and the action actually surprised me a few times.

7.5/10

I think he's generally good enough in the roles he plays (obviously outstanding as Andy Dwyer) particularly in Passengers where the film and it's cast are exactly what they needed to be and it's an enjoyable film but I agree he somehow manages to be almost too serious in the Dinosaur films.

One thing that I have loved since I first saw it and have the greatest respect for CP is this which for some reason wasn't aired when he was on The Graham Norton Show: Card Trick

Never realised that wasn't aired, only saw the clip!

He's not one of the greats but I really like him as Star Lord and thought he was generally very good as Owen in the JW franchise. He balances the action-hero/comedy parts well.

I do not like that he keeps voice acting stuff, he was fine in Mario but I find his casting as Garfield personally offensive rofl (I'm a big fan of Garfield, the comic strip not the films. Although I actually thought Bill Murray was spot on just a shame about the rest of it).

It's Lawrence's face which goes from "I've been putting up with his nonsense for the whole of this junket / film etc." to "What?????!!!!!!! How?????"

He should do more comedy because he has perfect timing.

Dream Scenario. 2023, Nicolas Cage. Watched on Dailymotion online.

Professor Paul Matthews’ unobtrusive life is turned upside down after he starts appearing in people’s dreams with no apparent explanation. While he becomes an overnight sensation, he has to deal with the aftermath of having no control over what he does in other people’s dreams.

Paul is a forgettable, some would even say dull, middle aged professor. The first half is quite light hearted, humorous at times. The second half turns quite dark. Peoples dreams involving him suddenly begin to take a sinister side. People, including his family, turn on him. The ugly side of social media damn near destroys him, he's gone from 'good' famous, to famous for all the wrong reasons.

It wasn't my cup of tea, although it was intriguing and held my interest to what I thought was a rather dull ending. Cage was, as always, rather exceptional.

A special nod to the weirdest 'sex' scene I think I've ever seen.

From the description, it sort of reminds me of that episode of Friends were Phoebe is hating on Ross for the entire episode over something he did in a dream she had (ie. not actually his fault in any way).

Your description sounds intriguing though.

Did you ever see the Will Ferrell film where he discovers that his life is being narrated by / controlled by an author who is writing a book? An odd concept, for sure, but in the same ballpark as what you are describing.

edit: Quick google says the film I am referring to is Stranger than Fiction (2006), also starring Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson

I never got in to Friends, and no, never seen Stranger than Fiction. Will keep an eye out for that one.

It's not a bad film, just very 'different'. Critics reviews seem stronger than the general publics. I really think it is one you have to try, to see if you 'get' it.

I wouldn't call myself a fan of Friends, I just happened to have seen that episode

It's an old trope though; a woman being angry at a man for something he did in a dream. Friends was full of such lazy borderline-offensive tropes.
