Thanks for the heads up though exactly what I was expecting.

Talking of desperate, Eddie Murphy is releasing Coming 2 America shortly so can you watch that for me and let me know if it's as horrendous as it sounds.
Bruce doesn't even look desperate in his films these days. He doesn't even try to look like he wants to be there - he has adopted that nonchalant bored look he first showed in RED where, to be fair, it kind of worked. Since then though, he just looks bored. At least when you see Stallone or Arnie give it a go these days, they look like they're enjoying themselves.

Keanu looks like he's just hitting his stride - he's on fire with the John Wick series (although I thought the latest Bill & Ted did him no favours - maybe I've grown up finally). Tom Cruise rarely puts a foot wrong whereas Will Smith appears to have lost his grip on the production process and storytelling.

Now Eddie Murphy... he does look desperate for adulation however sometimes he can pull it off. I will watch it for you and report back. wink

The best role he has had in the past two decades is as a talking donkey.

You would probably have to go back to Bowfinger for the last good live action role.

He was pretty good in My Name Is Dolomite along with Wesley Snipes who was surprisingly good as well after not seeing him in much lately.

"Breaking In" last night, was a reasonably watchable film, albeit with a few typical cliches, for example baddies in control of the house threaten to kill the kids several times, but can't tie them up properly even when they've already escaped once and it's remarkable how quickly the kids figure out the entire layout of a massive house they've never been to before. And then "Disturbia" again.

"Taken" on Film4 last night, presumably not part of their run-up to International Women's Day. A decent enough film, but it does go downhill a bit after the speech. And then the last ten minutes of "Taken 2" on another channel.

My Mrs suggested working our way through the Bond films the other day (her other recent suggestions have been the Indiana Jones trilogy, Groundhog Day, and Ghostbusters. I married well cloud9). Watched Dr No and From Russia with love so far. Good bit of brain out action but you don't realise quite how far attitudes to women have changed until you watch old Bond films hehe

I don't know. What do they cut out to make the tamer cut, and I'll try to remember if it was there.

Coming to America 2 (2021)

Just out today on Amazon. I wasn’t even going to bother watching since my expectations were that low. Times review today gave it one star. Currently a 5.6 on IMDb, when the original is a 7. Whaaat!

At five minutes in I fully expected to give up but I kept on watching, then Wesley Snipes appeared, oh Jesus Christ how bad could this actually be...

Well not actually as bad as I’d thought. So many of the original cast reunited (ok perhaps easier when some cast members are playing many characters,) then the Barber shop scene touched on the original’s magic with Arsenio and Murphy working together again like the preceding 33 years had barely been a few weeks.

I would have liked Patrice, Darryl and Samuel L.J. to reappear but apart from that (and the shock of how much Maurice has aged compared to the rest) it wasn’t too bad, even Randy Watson is temporarily resurrected for a catchy song & dance finalé.

5/10, worth watching for the flashbacks and because the original was genius.

Bohemian rhapsody

Great movie, great music. But always amazes me just how well they were able to make nearly all the actors look close to the genuine article. Even his mum and dad!

Agreed. It was a revelation, and although I’ve only been a modest Queen fan.... I thought it just brilliant.

...

My own Friday night viewing was a toss up between Action, Eddie Murphy Comedy (as above), and a Horror.. so... Sly Stallone. What could possibly go wrong?

From the start I regretted the choice of Backtrace

The acting was crap, the music annoying, didn’t notice any action, the device of shaking the camera to show memory was so amateurish it was funny, and the story?.....

I don’t know. Mercy stepped in and I fell asleep. Tried to catch up this morning, but I’m certainly not “invested” in it...at all

If you enjoy this film...... ‘Mister, you’re a better man than I?

Can't remember it all but nails into legs was a lot lot more explicit in the full edit.

I thought it was a 7/10

If it wasn’t for the original music it would have been a 5/10

Didn’t deserve the credit it got...IMO!

Rewatched it last week and I think that's a fair assessment.

Coming 2 America 7/10

I think you need a drink in hand, or 2-3 to enjoy it to the full, but it’s an old fashioned entertaining film that doesn’t let a complex plot get in the way of jokes, impressions, musical numbers and nostalgia.

It’s a bit like the fast show, if don’t like something, don’t worry there will be another, different gag any second.

SLJ gets a brief cameo in a flash back, as do the two old farts from Trading Places, someone gets called the sweat from a Baboons balls etc. Silly fun

Willy's Wonderland - 2021
Saw this on the net.

Nic Cage stars in this, I guess you would call it a campy B-movie horror/comedy.

Driving along he gets his tyres punctured by a stinger in the road.
Out comes local Hicksville tow truck guy who charges him £1k to fix the car, having no internet in the town and no cash machines, the friendly mechanic says he can work it off by working for his mate who turns out to be the owner of Willy's Wonderland.
The owner makes a deal with Nic that if he cleans the place up in a night, he will arrange for his car to be fixed for the morning.

Unbeknownst to Nic this place is filled with killer animatronic animals who come to life to feed on their victims, and the owner and mechanic had set this up so Nic would be the next sacrifice.

Little did they know Nic is a badass and the animatronics have met their match.

This film is full on Nic Cage along with random crazy faces and dances.
Throw in some random teens who are trying to burn the place down and save Nic at the same time.
Also for some reason which isn't explained he needs to drink a can of pop at a set time even taking a break mid fight to go have a can of pop.
He also doesn't say one word in the whole film.

If you want to see Nic Cage being Nic Cage while kicking the crap out of giant animal robots, drinking cans of pop, and cleaning a building, and not saying a single word, then this film is for you.

It is what it is, 6 out of 10 or 3 out of 10 for non-Cage fans.

I feel like I have just read something from Charlie Brooker's old TVGoHome website where he would post reviews of made up films and TV channel listings of fictitious shows.

(This is meant as a compliment, btw.)
