Animal Factory (2000) Prime

Drug-bust youngster's befriends long-term lag & mates during his first prison sentance.

Based loosely on Eddie Bunker's (who also features) semi-biography The Animal Factory, able US prison drama w/ T2's Edward Furlong & an excellent Willem Defoe as prison sage.
Will give that a try thanks, read the book years ago and enjoyed it

Ruroni Kenshin: The Final (2021)

On Netflix. Watched it with daughter. Most live action of manga/anime aren’t great but this was a very good effort. We thought the sword fighting scenes were very well done. Not quite as reality defying as Chinese stuff like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon although not fully realistic. Daughter was swooning over the lead actor. Apparently up there with Chris Hemsworth.

Solid 8 out of 10 katanas
Only seen the first one. Still got 2, 3 and The Final to watch. Liked i so far.

I watched Burke and Hare the other night. I recorded it from The Talking Pictures channel. It stars Derren Nesbitt, Glynn Edwards and Harry Andrews. It tells the story of the notorious murderers who killed people so they could sell the corpses to the Anatomist Dr Knox. Quite amusing in places. 6/10.

I'm just watching The Hitman's Bodyguard because it's Friday, and I've had a glass of wine and... I don't have to explain myself to you!

Anyway; I'm struggling to recognise where in Coventry this was filmed.
Or why, on a journey from Manchester to somewhere they can get across to Europe, they would consider driving through Coventry city centre.

I suppose, above all, I'm left wondering "why Coventry?" I have nothing aginast Coventry (other than the fact it's a sthole), but it wasn't essential to the story, and they obvously coupdn't be arsed to actually go there, so why not 'Oxford', or 'Lincoln' or 'Liverpool'?

Maybe the production team wasn't talking to someone. smile

Fatherhood - 2021 - Netflix
Drama starring Kevin Hart as the husband who as soon as his child is born, loses his wife due to complications.

Cue the story of him trying to bring up his daughter without a clue on what to do.
Shows the struggles of a single parent trying to juggle his life, work, relationships, meddling in laws and proving everyone who doubts him that he can do it.

As a drama with some comedic elements, Hart surprised me with how good he was in this as he doesn't normally do serious acting.

Feel good film which you will probably relate with if you are a single dad, something to watch with the Mrs.

Nothing new or amazing about it that hasn't been done before, however you'll either enjoy it or think it's was all soppy bks.

6.5/10
Sounds a bit like Jack and Sarah with Richard E Grant.

Watched Palm Springs the other day and quite enjoyed it. Amusing storyline, pretty mindless viewing but fun.

Where did you find the other three? Here in NZ the only have the Final (which seems a bit odd).

I remember that, would be similar.

Apparently Jack and Sarah is a romantic comedy but I don't remember it being a barrel of laughs. Was quite good though.

They all went on UK Netflix at the same time.

Captain Fantastic (2016)

Moving and beautifully acted, a family reintegrating through sad circumstances from a wilderness existence. Viggo Mortensen nominated for golden globe, BAFTA and best actor Oscar!

A bullseye with a bow and arrow.

Makes more sense than the Kiwi approach

The Unholy 4/10 Jeffrey Dean Morgan playing, well, Jeffrey Dean Morgan in standard religious horror flick but with a couple of big jumps to keep the ladies behind their pillows.

The Emptyman 4/10 Starts well but then becomes plodding fare before the end which to be fair I didn’t see coming but perhaps should have. Overlong at 2 hours 15 minutes, it’s a 100 minute film at most.

You might also like Sinatra's two other films from the same period, 'Tony Rome' from 1967 and the sequel 'Lady In Cement' from 1968, where he plays a retired cop turned private eye in Florida. They're not as gritty as 'The Detective' but he is flawless in both films, he just makes it look so easy. Bonus PH content as he wafts around in a beaten up old Ford Fairlane convertible wink
I binged both of them to complete the trilogy.
Jill St John and Raquel Welsh both gratuitously flaunting their curves and very much of the time. Enjoyed both movies but Lady in Cement was a bit tacky.

On a more serious note was left shattered by Land of Mine mentioned earlier by others.
Subtitled mine disposal by German youth POWs on a Danish beach.
Beautiful scenery but horrendous experience no doubt based on true life.
8/10 Still a brilliant movie despite the hard hitting story.

Dog Soldiers

Not seen this for many, many years. Showing its age a bit but great fun, the stomach scene is as funny/gross as I'd remembered it. Love it.
