Bonkers.

I'm not sure it's possible to dislike this film, because it's derivative, peurile and batty, and it knows it.

But it's fun, and it knows that too.

Gotta be worth seven mosquitos out of ten culottes.
Wtf am I watching

I’m starting to realise why there wasn’t a preview trailer.

I liked it. Knowingly self-deprecating nonsense. Fun.

Innerspace (1987) Blu-ray

Successful miniaturization experiment goes awry.

Speilberg produced silly sci-fi fun. '80's Meg Ryan and a '67 Mustang stand out from the nonsense. Also, another spot of a Mk1 Capri in a US film.

Watched this with the missus from the recommendations above. Thelma and Louise mashed with Austin Powers,

Didn't really work for me though.

I loved this when I was younger and it’d be a treat when it came on telly.
Still works well today.

I’d invest in a BR, does it really come out well in BR?

I keep hoping BBC will transmit it in HD and I can grab it via satellite... they tend to be encoded like a decent 3-4gb BR rip with 5.1 and nice dvb subs which is good enough for me smile

Blood Red Sky (Netflix)

A plane is hijacked, one of the passengers has a 'medical condition' that causes the hijackers big problems.

The core concept is really quite good, the execution less so. You can save yourself a lot of time by just watching the trailer, which is probably structured closer to what the film should be.

Looking forward to a reimagining of the idea with a better budget.

Having been disappointed by some of the more recent Pixar stuff, this was a refreshing return to form and I dare say they will sell a few Vespas off the back of it.

Obvious inspirations from The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio and no doubt others, the overall result is a very good children's film.

8 Vespas out of 10 Ducatis

3 for 3 in the last three days:

Black Widow
Unbelievably generic Marvel movie that doesn’t really need to exist. Three days later and it’s just a memory blur. The Russian dad was good though. Meh

Tomorrow War
Utterly formulaic sci-fi action, a mash-up of Aliens, The Edge Of Tomorrow and many others. Quite good fun but nothing special.

Joker
That’s better. Excellent performance by Joachin Phoenix as an ordinary, troubled guy who, when pushed, descends in to madness. Tied in to the DC world but not so it’s shoved down your throat. Ready compelling, even though you can kinda see what’s coming. I really hope they make more of this Joker story as it was great. Recommended.

I just watched this too and agree with the above. It wasn't a bad film, insofar as it slots right into the rest of the Marvel "brain out" series. It wasn't particularly engaging as it doesn't move the (already finished) story about Thanos on, and it kind of makes it all seem pointless as we already know Romanoff's fate.

The end scene seemed weird to me - did I read it the scene-titles right that it was set only 2-weeks later and yet the "environment" (can't say too much without spoiling it) looked as though it had been in place for far longer.

Aparrt from that, it was an OK way to pass a couple of hours - bit of a disappointment if we were thinking there might be some amazing twist that brings her back from her fate - but whatever...
Watched it last week with my daughter. One of the weakest Marvel films. Only highlight was Florence Pugh. The Marvel films are totally silly but you can sort of understand Thor being part of the Avengers and surviving stupid amounts of violence - because he is a god - but Natasha is just a normal human yet seems to be indestructible (literally walks/runs away from a car crash that would have likely killed her). Seems to have a James Bond like anti bullet ability too.

Also had possibly the most coincidental scene in any film as at one point she needs to do some sky diving. She isn’t wearing a parachute. Hey, no problem, as she goes to jump off the flying structure she is on there just happens to be a backpack/parachute handily left by the ledge that she can pick up as she jumps off!

What gets me with these types of films is that the main characters get all worked up and wrathful because someone they know or care about is killed…yet they often kill dozens or hundreds of people in their revenge mission. As if being employed by a baddie makes you not worthy of living.

It's a fair observation that can be applied to all revenge films. yes

Riffed on several times by Robot Chicken and others.

Good to hear. Daughter and I are waiting for when it can be rented (we were going to watch it a few weeks back but was still only available to buy).

I’m struggling to think of a bad Pixar movie. Some haven’t been great but all have been watchable. Quite a few I’ve seen more than once.

Usually the worst they get are merely watchable, but I suppose expectations are raised by past successes.

IMO they clearly peaked in the early 2000s and ever since they have only had a few really great films, one of those being a sequel (Toy Story 3)

I’ve just looked at a list of their films and think you are right. I thought Inside Out and Coco were great but lots of inferior sequels.

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty (the newer version with Ben Stiller).

This is my guilty secret film - shouldn't work but the relaxed pace, music (mostly by Junip) and the cinematography just makes me unable to turn away every time it's on... right to the end credits.

I love it, especially the skateboarding scene.
Really nice film. Brilliant soundtrack that led me to a couple of new artists such as Rogue Valley.

I watched this last night and agree with your review, great concept but poorly executed. I did think that the lead actress did a good job physically.

Well it is of course a subjective decision what is considered great or not.

Personally I think both Ratatouille and Up are good movies, but, aside from the opening montage of Up, not particularly great ones.

Even there though you are still citing movies over 12 years old.

In my view these are the "Great" movies Pixar have made since their peak

Wall E
Toy Story 3
Inside Out

I haven't seen the four most recent so cannot judge

In contrast before 2005 you had

Toy Story 1 &2
Monsters Inc
Finding Nemo
The Incredibles

The last four of those all in quick succession.

Adam.
