Me too. I genuinely believe Interstellar to be the 2001 of my generation. And I'm not even joking.
You mean it has some really good space science in it but it goes on too long and the ending is a load of confusing bks? At least 2001 has a decent plot to it, and you can skip the ending without losing anything.
The Suicide Squad (2021) The confusingly named sequel to a film I did not see. Margot Robbie back as Harley Quin, as Idris Elba leads another team of Super Soldiers, Super Villains, and misfits. The plot is simple enough - due to a coup on some South American island, American involvement in unethical experiments may come to light, and Task Force X must prevent that.
It is pretty much non stop action. It tries to put some meat on the characters with limited success - Harley is one dimensional, there isn't much "chemistry" to be seen, and there are quite a few characters sharing the time. Overall it is enjoyable tosh, a little light humour, some minor surprises. 7/10

I don't think it is a sequel, really. Suicide Squad was, apparently, tripe. This is a do-over that doesn't pretend the original film never happened, but it's a standalone film.It is pretty much non stop action. Started watching Once upon a time in Hollywood and got to the bit where Damien Lewis was at a party talking about who married who etc and gave up. Very dull.
Does it get better?
Started watching Lochdown after and found that boring too.
Maybe it's me!!
Visually it's certainly Tarantino's best movie. It is trying to be evocative of a particular place at a very specific time and if you look at it from that perspective it is mesmerising. The fairytale last 10 minutes is Tarantino perhaps wishing how it could have all gone down.Does it get better?

I liked it and thought it was the best of the Oscar contenders that year.
F9
Utter drivel. At least on the earlier films you could switch off your brain and enjoy the spectacle.
This one is so stupid you cant even do that. They clearly just decided that they have to top the Submarine sequence in F8 and then cobbled the rest of the running time by spitballing any ideas and shoehorning them in (hence the tedious flashback sequences and old characters etc).
Michael Caine rumoured now to join the franchise for the two part finale. FFS!
Tyrese Gibson also clearly been on the pies since F8!! He looks much heavier. Damn that lockdown lard
Nathalie Emmanuel looks incredible though
4/10 and that's mainly for the spectacular 4k image and sound mix!

ROAD HOUSE - channel 5, saturday.
my love for all cheese from the 80s/90s and i've missed this one in the past but heard of it by reputation.
it doesnt disappoint
80s violence, 80s dire dialogue , 80s boobies / bikinis, 80s "rich man wants your land" plotline
so bad its great.

I watched the whole Patrick Swayze tribute on CH5 the other night. It was quite interesting.
Watched Summerland last night. Well acted and kinda gentle in its approach .
I saw some of you comparing Interstellar to 2001 a Space Odyssey and while it's a very well made movie I really don't think it comes close to Kubrick's flawed masterpiece. However despite its ground -breaking special effects and very intriguing storyline I have always found 2001 a rather uneven watch. Majestic and cerebral yes, but also somewhat surreal and annoying.
To my mind its sequel 2010 Odyssey 2 helmed by Richard Hyams is a far far better film than either of the above. It has all the majesty of 2001 - all the scale and wonder at the universe but manages to package it into a far better and more compelling storyline. To me, it might actually be the greatest science fiction movie ever made. The fact that hardly anybody has ever heard of it makes its rewards all the richer!! My bluray copy on my 7.1 surround sound home theatre system with its projection screen has reduced me to tears on more than one occasion. This is a movie that amply rewards you turning the volume up!! Everybody I have ever shown this film to has been utterly bowled over by it...
Enjoy - this will probably be the best movie you will ever watch that you have never heard of!

I think you misunderstand the point I was making. 2001 is a flawed masterpiece that blew a lot of people away; in concept, science, realism, and convincing SFX (for the time), and was the defining Sci-Fi film of its generation. I was suggesting that Interstellar is the same but for a younger generation.
2010 is a good film, but doesn't have the same cultural impact as 2001 as you yourself acknowledge.
I make no comment or comparison on the relative merits of the 3 films, because that isn't what I was saying.

Thanks for the clarification cupcake - I take your point about Intestellar having a big impact on a younger generation of viewers and there's no denying it was intelligent thought provoking sci-fi of a kind that comes along only rarely.
If you like thought provoking sci-fi you might enjoy Space 1999 series 1. The plotlines are often quite deep while the special effects were done by many of the same people who worked on 2001 and production values are very high. It certainly doesn't look like a series made in the early to mid 70's.
