i enjoyed interstellar for me it was a film that addresses the actual realities of travel, and intertwined a love story to boot. A masterpiece that still gets me.

Three good DVD oldies from the Saturday village safari sale. A binge watch of Burt Reynolds movies -

White Lightning 1973
A tale of moonshine boys dodging the Revenue, lots of fast cars, squealing tires and a bent sheriff. Our hero sets out to avenge his young brothers murder.
7 / 10 jugs of shine

Gator 1976
This man reprises the same character, this time to deliver a town hood to the Revenue. Starts with a great speed boat chase through the swamp but too many comedy interludes. Jerry Reed plays the hood while Lauren Hutton provides the glamour. Good intro ballad sung by JR.
6 / 10 bayou huts.

Sharky's Machine 1981
Now in a different league as BR plays a cop investigating a murder to a high class hooker. A contemporary Dirty Harry type movie played seriously. Lots of suspense broken by the appearance of the lovely Racheal Ward.
8 /10 lines of coke
Street Life by Randy Crawford sets the scene.
Crime was so simple in those days. A great weekend of cheap entertainment.

Jungle Cruise - a few ropey SFX, it won't win any prizes for script or originality, overall though a fun Disney blockbuster. That being said it is not as good as the 1st PoTC was at the time but good fun

If you like thought provoking sci-fi you might enjoy Space 1999 series 1. The plotlines are often quite deep while the special effects were done by many of the same people who worked on 2001 and production values are very high. It certainly doesn't look like a series made in the early to mid 70's.
I don't think Gerry Anderson was involved with the SFX of 2001. But, yes, Space: 1999 was a good series.

I thought this was appalling regurgitated crud of the basest kind.
A feeble jungle rip off of Indiana Jones type adventures with two dimensional uninteresting characters.

Score = 2 cliched rips off out of ten blockbusting originals.

Michael Caine rumoured now to join the franchise for the two part finale. FFS!
Not many people know that... smile
"Have you seen F10 Michael?"

"No, I've heard it's rubbish, but I have seen the house it built and that's rather lovely'
Isn't incredible that you cannot read that and not hear it in MC's voice?

Crazy Rich Asians

Not sure what the point of it was and a complete waste of Ken Jeong.

Tedious.

Is that the one where Chloe Grace Mortez plays a special operations operative, flying undercover in a B17 over Europe battling a gremlin like alien while all time showing all the sexist white men on board just how a five foot nothing girl manages to take down names and kick ass in her incredible anti-gravity trousers? At least that what it looks like from the trailer?

What with that mess and Tom & Jerry the girl seriously needs to change her agent because the one she's got is turning her into a female Nic Cage.

Only vaguely remember Sharky's Machine - keen to watch it again though. Strong money being asked for the DVD on eBay.

That is indeed the film. It's actually worse than you've described; I won't 'spoil' the ending for anyone still determined to watch it, but the ending is such a 'strong (but still vulnerable) female' cliche that it's pathetic.

Shame as it could have been an OK low budget, fun popcorn movie. I quite liked some of the theatre style moments (characters speaking as just heads without a background etc.) and there's no problem with a strong female lead. Sadly though, in reality it's just a horribly contrived and confused mess.

Had a bit of a unintentional Antonio Banderas double bill yesterday on Netflix

Bullethead
Starts Adrian Brody, John Malkovic, one of Macaulay Culkins brothers and Banderas.
3 crooks on the run after a job end up hiding out at an old warehouse, while police search for them outside.
Unbeknownst to them there's a killer dog left abandoned in it, so they try to survive the day without being eaten alive.
While they also try to get away with a bunch of money they've found that was stashed there by a underground mob boss.

Good actors and it was enjoyable enough for a one time watch.
6/10

Acts of Vengeance
Antonia Banderas is the highly successful defence lawyer with the perfect life/family/home.
After working late at the office he finds out his wife and daughter were murdered.
After police have no luck with the case and a period of self loathing, and a chance encounter with a book on stoicism.
He decides to take it upon himself to find the killers and starts training in martial arts etc to help him.

He's also taken a vow of silence as well until he finds the killers which apparently makes your hearing like superman's and doesn't hinder your abilities to find clues or interrogate people at all.

A lot of ridiculousness in this film but had decent action and the story was ok even with all the obvious holes in it.

5/10

Croods 2 - Amusing family film. The plot is paper thin but the animation is amazing and the characters are great including all the animals. Spider-Wolves got the nod from my daughter and the lad liked the punch monkeys. Quite scary (for kids) in places.

TBH I can't criticise that point of view either. I 'bought into it' as a (sort of) 30's movie matinee pastiche but can totally understand the dislike too

After the first one, it deserved so much more.

1/10 sorry I just had to switch it off after about 15 minutes. How you can do a movie based on aviation clearly using a Daily Mail Aviation Expert just ruined the short amount of time I watched it.

- Advancing throttles to TOGA when coming into land. To land.

- Landing aircraft using perpendicular runways at the same time?

- Making bets that one aircraft would miss another in a landing pattern.

Dross. Even a 6 year old would question it.

Why Don't You Just Die!

Russian violent comedy was on Film4 at the weekend and on All4 for a few weeks. The All4 link says this much, a girl sends her boyfriend to kill her cop dad.

Dark, gory, but a lot of fun hehe

Agreed.
But Patricia Highsmith preferred the French Alain Delon version 'Plein Soleil'. So do I.
