Films I watched this week (NO SPOILERS) (Vol 3)
Discussion
A Clockwork Orange (1971).
Doesn't really need any introduction.
I've had it on DVD forever and haven't watched it in most of that time. Darkly funnier than I remember, and worth it alone for Patrick McGee's scenery-chewing, also for some wonderful modernist architecture location shooting. Thamesmead was the future once!
9 morally suspect crime initiatives out of 10.

One thing that really jarred was just how poorly choreographed and executed the violence was, and how amateurish it looked. Maybe we are used to seeing expertly choreographed fight scenes these days, but it really broke me out of the suspension of disbelief and I found myself laughing at the absurdity of it when I should have been horrified by it. I guess things change.

I haven't seen Arrival but amongst the garbage there's a few lesser known Charlie Sheen films that are quite good IMO - No Man's Land & Terminal Velocity in particular.
The chase? Can’t remember a sex scene but I think there was a twist she was in on it all along or something Last night I watched “Inheritance” on Netflix.
If instead I had watched a film of all the girls I ever fancied watching all the cringe things I’ve ever done, followed by all the people I’ve ever loved watching all the girls I’ve ever fancied laughing at my penis, it would still have been a better film than “Inheritance”.

Thanks for that I was going to watch it but decided to watch Orphan - 2009 instead. If instead I had watched a film of all the girls I ever fancied watching all the cringe things I’ve ever done, followed by all the people I’ve ever loved watching all the girls I’ve ever fancied laughing at my penis, it would still have been a better film than “Inheritance”.
Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard are a couple who have had some issues previously, the main one being they had a stillborn child which affected the wife a lot.
They already have 2 kids but the lost child still continues to haunt them.
To fill the void they decide to adopt a Russian girl from a local orphanage, everything starts off well with the girl but then trouble starts to follow her around and everything is not what it seems.
Having never seen this before I thought it would be similar Omen type film but then the film takes a quote unexpected turn which I thought was quite original.
Good watch 7/10

Hustlers
First film I've given up on in a long time. What a pile of crap.
Went with my wife. First movie we’ve seen together for years.... sadly, agree with your opinion. HOWEVER, there was a couple aged no younger than mid-sixties in the row in front of us and she was HOWLING with laughter at all the purvey scenes, and that made the experience really quite fun.First film I've given up on in a long time. 1/10 film. 11/10 Doris crying with laughter.
Alita: Battle Angel on Prime. A CGI / live action version of the anime comic series. Set in a dystopian future ruled by Nova from his sky city above, the remains of humanity eek out an existence in a scrapyard called Iron City. There, a cyborg doctor finds the still living disembodied head of a beautiful cyborg, and he reanimates her. She remembers nothing of her past, and the good doctor has some secrets of his own.
There are fantastic visuals and action as Alita rediscovers some memory and her purpose, but the story is a little weak, and the teenage romance angle is a bit clumsy. 7/10

Nightingale - 7/10
Story of an Irish girl that has her husband and baby murdered by an English Officer in the British Army.
She subsequently employs a local to help her track them and exact revenge.
Quite grippy in parts to watch and one of the opening rape scenes I found quite difficult to watch.
Story is quite predictable but parts are in Irish so subtitles.
Forrest Gump
One of those films I somehow never got round to watching before, and it's clearly my loss. What lovely film, its got humor, tragedy, a decent story, good actors, etc.
Also my first experience of a drive in cinema. Impressed how well my standard car stereo works as a movie surround sound system, but the top of my windscreen is a little low compared to some cars so needed some careful seat arrangement, and turning the ignition on to demist the windscreen every 10-15 minutes got a bit annoying, I might have been better off just leaving it blowing all the time, but that would mean my DRLs being on as well.

Road House yet again. Honestly, I never tire of this film.
Fights, drinking, hot doctor, bimbo with big knockers, cars, more fights, classic lines, fat bloke, explosions and a plain Jane who brings doughnuts.
If I could only ever watch one film again it would be this.
10/10 all day, every day.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind online. In a heavily polluted post-war future Earth, mostly covered with toxic jungle inhabited by giant insects, a few humans remain. An animal loving, flying princess tries to stop two tribes, still warring, from destroying what remains.
It's a classic, pre Studio Ghibli, and generally ranked as one of the best ever anime films. It is indeed very good.
