A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)
1, 2 Freddy's coming for you...
Slasher classic, still great & features one of my favourite scences - Tina in a bodybag in the corridor.

Black Mountain Side (2014)
Remote, atmospheric, and slightly weird horror that slowly builds the tension, somewhat reminiscent of John Carpenter's ‘The Thing’.
Nice setting, cinematography, no big names and with a slightly indie flavour, I started watching almost expecting to turn off midway through based on the limited budget and some poor reviews. The slow start didn’t help much either but it had just enough to maintain my interest as the story unfolded.
Not exceptional but a good Sunday evening watch and nowhere near the disaster some reviews suggest.
A solid 7.

[b]1917[/] - Very, very impressive, incredibly dull. 3/10. Basically a Sam Mendes showreel.
Everest - A weird one this. I really enjoyed the first half (where nothing goes horribly wrong) a lot, but then when things take a turn for the worse in the second half, I though it was garbage. 5/10

Jack Reacher - Tom Cruise as an ex-army murder investigator, whose findings lead to a bigger picture of corruption.
Pretty good stuff with a couple of lighter moments. Robert Duvall saves the day. Cruise a bit indestructible in this but some good action sequences. That poor Chevelle SS...
Binged the first three Jason Bourne instalments (Identity, Supremacy, Ultimatum). All good here - the first is very good, the second is great and (despite reviews to the contrary) I felt the third was tailing off a bit.
However, I still prefer them to the modern Bond offerings. Well worth another viewing. Legacy next on the list.

Couldn't agree more - well shot, but almost like the long continuous shot thing was more important than a decent storyline. 4/10At the weekend, I also watched Hacksaw Ridge for the first time - couldn't be more different - really enjoyed it and likely to watch again. 8/10

I didn't even notice it when watching the film. I noticed that I didn't care much about the characters. 1917
I'm certain that there's a thread dedicated to this but stuff it, don't care!
Finally got round to watching it.
Two things spring to mind. 1; There is isn't a Nobel Prize for Cinemtography but there should be and Roger Deakin (and Sam Mendes) should get it and 2... to blatantly and wilfully misquote another film epic
"Covid? Pah... tis merely a flesh wound. Come 'ere and I'll bit yer legs off!

The Invisible Man (2020)
Just missed this in the cinema prior to lockdown so waited for it to reduce from a £16 rental to a far more reasonable £1.99.
Very solid movie, the concept is brought up to date nicely and whilst I feel more could have been made of it, it's approx 800 times better than the one and only other movie in the 'dark universe' (The Mummy). Genuinely tense at times and Elisabeth Moss is, as always, excellent.

We both really enjoyed it, so thanks
Star Wars
I signed up to Disney+ to try to keep the kids happy during our Firebreak, I can’t remember the last time I actually watched the original Star Wars.
It’s still a great film after a couple of decades break from it.
A few thoughts though:
4K HDR and a big screen isn’t very kind to 70s visual effects and set builds, but it’s the 90s CGI (no doubt given a polish for 4k) that sticks out. But I don’t care.
Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing are like F1 drivers at the local Karting centre, even Harrison Ford who has all the charisma in the world is outclassed in every scene with Guinness and there’s a reason why Mark Hamil makes a living voicing cartoons.
The actors playing Storm Troopers very obviously can’t see a thing out of their helmets, ha ha not just in the famous head bang shot, you can see them running and bumping into each other.
Mostly though, my Daughter is loving it, it’s not Just a nostalgia trip, it’s genuinely great.
