Who's That Girl (1987)

Surprisingly another spot of a US spec Capri in this one - second in a week after watching Elm St 3.
Surprisingly common as I've just seen a Mercury Capri II in a CHiPs episode on Forces TV.
Looks like that one's been missed on IMCDB,

I should be watching CHipS - the volume of '70's & '80's onscreen chod's appealing; probably haven't seen an episode in 40 odd years.
Quite hilarious. Ponch's new brown bullnose Trans Am gets stolen by a team of women.
In a subsequent chase, using a 4x4, (in which the Capri appears, parked up) you see the TA on a collision course towards the rear of a car. There is obviously a big ramp because when the car "hits" and takes off, there is no damage to the nose but on landing, it flips and there is then an obvious flammable liquid, surface fire and explosion, for added kudos...
Did the robbers then emerge, look a little surprised & then dust themselves off; as per The A-Team/Dukes of Hazard/all '80's US TV shows style hehe

Certainly not. She had to be pulled out of the now inverted Trans Am, with a crushed roof, and her face was unmarked and her hairstyle still perfectly coiffed.
He probably knobbed her in the cells later....

1998 film included in Amazon Prime.

Think Crystal Maze with added sci-fi... but then also add in cheap American dialogue and over-wrought psychology and emotion.

7.2 on IMDB but, for me, barely five escapes from ten rooms. Might appeal more to others who enjoy psych-fi type themes.
It’s a cult classic. Was made for about $7,50 many of the actors were just yanked from local acting schools iirc.
It’s a fantastic film

yes Great film when it came out. Makes me feel old knowing it was '98!

Vamp (1986) Blu-ray

College dudes head to downtown Kansas City dive-club to score a stripper for a frat party initiation, all’s not what it seems after the first dances.

Taped this from the TV when I was in my early teens & watched it loads then. Not seen it for years & with hindsight it was probably best left that way.

The Foreigner

Blokes only surviving daughter gets killed in an IRA bombing, he goes looking for culprits, everyone underestimates the 60 year old Chinese immigrant until they discover he's a former special forces Vietnam veteran.
...............
Thanks Rizzo for the heads up.
I really enjoyed it, even to say one of the best movies I've seen this year.
Pierce Brosnan was a very convincing IRA agent ( modelled on who I wonder ? ) and Jackie Chan was outstanding.
9 explosions / 10.
Took me a while to even realise it was Brosnan, agree he was very good.

Continuing the Jackie Chan theme, we watched Mr Nice Guy the other night. Terrible acting, weird audio (it seemed like it was dubbed even though they were speaking English), random explosions (pillars explode when a truck drives in to them, the final scene is hilarious), a really annoying girlfriend (I was expecting dainty Chinese lady to turn out to be a martial arts expert but sadly wasn't to be),, and a daft plot. However plenty of slapstick martial arts scenes which are what Jackie Chan films are all about so still worth a watch despite the negatives.

Also watched the first 2 Pirates of the Caribbean films over the weekend. Still amusing but the plot gets weirder as the films go on.

Point Break (1991)

The allegedly cult classic Keanu Reaves/Patrick Swayze surf/bank heist film. I guess I'm not cool enough to appreciate it as I thought it was just a bit "meh". It was, however, nice to see a relatively rare appearance from Lori Petty and a gritty/fun-loving pre-cancer Gary Busey (see: Quigley).

coast guard "swimmers" movie - Ashton Kutchen and Kevin Coster (and a host of B movie actors)

dire - so dire - the dialog is utterly awful

The Magnificent Ambersons (1942).

What Orson Welles made after Citizen Kane.

Reputedly on of the best films ever.

He went over the top and made a 2.5 hour film which the studio then cut to 90 minutes.

Thank God is all I can say as I have never sympathised less with the characters of a film. Like Kane, technically wonderful but emotionally empty.

Not helped to be fair by the cuts, so the 2nd half is rather disjointed.

5 spoiled children out of 10.

Jennifer's Body.

Hadn't seen it before, it's one of those that was slated at the time (2009) but is getting good reviews now. It is actually pretty good as a comedy with a bit of gore.

I watched this with my daughter on Sunday night. Only she came at it as that film out of Hot Fuzz laugh

But it's Gary Busey being Gary Busey and that has to be worth 8 fat bellies in 10 Hawaiian every day of the week for me.

Easily one of my favourite action films. Features loads of great scenes, but the foot-chase through the houses & ending in the river's spot-on.

If you've read about Jack's habits in the press of late, weird can be explained with that lifestyle!

They don't get less weird BTW, but are good yarns.

Now, whatever you expect from a Guy Ritchie.... well this is it, but I cannot criticise it for it's slightly formulaic, slightly re-hashed, stylised approach.

Two f---ing words, you c----:

"Hugely Entertaining"

...and I'd give it 9 bags of bush out of 10 cold gangster bodies strung up in freezers!

....as you were.
'+1 to this. The intricacies are great.

When I was at university my female housemates said the "final surfing scene (which I cannot recall) got their motors running a treat for some reason.

That alone was their raison d'etre for liking the film.

There was something about Lori Petty I really liked, great eyes. Not sure why she didn't make it bigger.

I watched the bio on Patrick Swayze this week, not totally what i expected, he had his demons with drinking before his fight with cancer. His mum seemed quite the lunatic, his dad the good guy who died early and never saw his rise to fame and fortune. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Simply put don’t bother. A bit like death wish (Charles Branson) but an American soccer mum instead. But stunningly predictable.

Only reason to watch it..... Jennifer Garner....Don't know what it is about her.

4/10 but only because of Garner

I enjoyed it. Though spawned in a plethora of Weinstein-apologetic female lead role films, I thought it stood out as being a cut above most of the dross.

No offence to women...
