Midsommer- I watched that when the OH had gone to bed, wasn't really paying attention the first time. So I gave it another watch on Saturday day time, I strangly quite enjoyed it. Quite disturbing, but also quite beautiful in a way, and the sound track. It stuck in my memory for a few days afterwards. Makes me want to watch hereditary now.

Downton abby- A new Era, we had a couple of hours free, and offer of a baby sitter l, we popped to the local cinema/theatre to see what was on, I really enjoyed it, but had enjoyed the series as well. Certainly a nice way to spend a couple of hours

Peanut butter Falcon- We watched that last night with the takeaway. A man with down syndrome runs away from a residential nursing home to pursue his dream of becoming a wrestler. Later, he meets with an outlaw who becomes his friend and coach. Just a lovely film about friendship, the setting and music really works well together as well. I would happily watch it again. Also 1 hour 37, a great length.

Utterly batst mental, yet somehow it works.
I totally, utterly, and completely disagree with the last part of that statement. biglaugh

It has no redeeming features whatsoever.

This is from someone who likes Drive Angry. hehe

Kill Bill vol. 1 & 2 back to back last night at the Electric Cinema in Birmingham, perfect cinema experience and so good to rewatch them that way, almost forgot how bloody good they were, the first film in particular with the Crazy 88 fight scene, just awesome!

Just sublime cinema.

Tarantino like Sergio Leone and a few others understood that action is just punctuation. The real drama is the setting of the scene and the manoeuvring of characters into place.

Kill Bill vol. 2 was tedious to the point I dozed off in the cinema.

Last Night In Soho

Not at all bad, really quite enjoyed it. Even though it was seriously foreshadowed I didn't spot the twist, it looked beautiful with some top drawer direction and set dressing, some great acting with an excellent cast and being an Edgar Wright movie of course a great soundtrack. Including one song that was so on the nose you wonder if Wright heard the song in his youth, thought that sounds like a great credits song for a horror movie and then started from there.

However.

About 15 minutes too long (but then what modern film isn't?), despite what I was saying about the acting one of the cast was utterly appalling and took you out of each scene they were in, over allowance on flashing lights to build tension and during the finale something very pivotal happens and then nothing is explained about what the consequences of it were for the rest of the film.

Anyway. enjoyable horror/time travel/murder mystery for a Sunday night. A solid 7 creepy business ghouls out of 10.

PBF deffo one of my favorites. Really good performances all round. Always was slightly put off with Shia, but sounds like Honey Boy was a bit more of a docu about his experiences and you get a bit of an insight into him. Think I'll rewatch PBF later : )

Dr Strange

There is a decent movie in their somewhere but it was a shame it wasn't allowed to materialise. As a fan of the character for almost 50 years I am a little bit annoyed how this movie turned out. Cumberbatch makes an excellent Dr Strange and the special effects and visuals were top notch as well. However...

As others have said it is a bit of a mess. Marvel have also got to the point where they are so concerned about stuffing these movies full of references/characters from the comic books that they end up pissing them/me off by not doing things properly.

A movie made by committee then, with an extra diversity member to really make everyone groan with the sheer predictability of every character decision. One gets the feeling that Marvel/Disney will not be happy until every white male character and the toxic masculinity they supposedly represent is replaced by either a women or a person of colour.

I cannot imagine Sam Raimi was happy with how this turned out.

Shadow in the cloud

2 reasons:

1, Chloe Grace Moretz - flipping gorgeous
2, Only an hour and a half

What a waste of an hour and half. Should have known better when it was plastered with New Zealand film board st at the start

Fist fight with a very toothy gremlin then a bit of breast feeding within 2 mins WTF

2/10 - and the 2 is for Chloe

If you want Bat st crazy and Nick Cage just watch 'Mandy'. Just don't watch it whilst drunk, high or in a feeble state of mind.

Me and the missus watched Batman (2022) on HBO max in two sittings.

It was a much darker tone than the previous films and you need to watch it with an oled telly in near pitch black darkness.

I thought the Riddler was excellent, Catwoman lacked the physical presence needed for the role, Batman was not half bad and police chief Gordon was really good.

The biggest surprise is penguin and who plays him, don't Google it just watch the film and see if you can work out who the actor is.

8/10.

Talking of Nicholas Cage, Lord of War popped up on NF.

Very poignant, as he plays a Ukrainian immigrant and is based on 'true events'

Great film.

Dog - Channing Tatum in a feel good movie about him taking his ex-mates dog (all 3 served in Afghan) on a road trip to his ex-mates funeral. Dog has PTSD and is due to be put down - you can guess the rest

AmbuLAnce - typical Michael Bay movie about a bank heist gone wrong. Worth a watch though some slow mo bits arent required but ya know, M Bay at the helm...

Wyrmwood Apocalypse - Aussie Zombie movie, more Walking Dead type of graphics than full hollywood graphics but possibly the better for it. This is the 2nd movie, 1st one is worth a watch as well.

Watched The Way, Way Back tonight as recommended on this thread

Charming movie and we all really enjoyed it. This is why I frequent these pages for recommendations like this which would no doubt otherwise have passed us by.

An easy 8/10
