Some plonker in the papers did a list of paul vanhoover films.
Thought I would give basic instinct another go as it was on the other day. Was a bit puzzled whe each scene was filled with talking heads. Seems odd. When the splapper crosses her legs all is revealed. Well not really as its so blown up its from above the waist. Why not cut the scene out rather than ruining the film by blowing it ALL up 200% ?
Giant kirk douglas jr mug in every shot is pretty challenging. Actually maybe this is the douglas cut as he was/is a bit of a fat head.

I used to love that movie. I think I saw it three times at the cinema.

Watching it about ten years ago I couldn’t quite work out why I thought it was so good.

Might give it another go though.

RoboCop is in cinemas this week for its 35th anniversary too.
Thanks for this. Just came back from watching.

Found a list of cinemas showing in the UK https://parkcircus.com/film/102716-Robocop

Four Prime Directives out of four.
Me too smile
Just back from seeing it, and even though i know the film word for word it was still BRILLIANT!!!

It also reminds me just how efficient older action films were - no pointless filler, just everything pushing the story along, and no stupid "in" jokes or stty improv-style "comedy".

Now I want to see Predator, Aliens, T1 and 2 and Die Hard on the big screen.
Right, after all this RoboCop chat, I'm off to browse Autotrader for a low-mileage 6000 SUX
Make sure it has cruise control
And the Magnavolt anti theft system.

(Yes I know it's in the sequel but that was decent too)
and it wont drain the battery - bonus!
and a Blaupunkt!
Don't jerk me off.
If you ever watch that scene in some versions of the film, when he gets punched out of the window, you will see his legs bounce back into shot after he's landed on the hidden crash mat.

Wrath of Man - a Guy Ritchie, Jason Statham film, so you know what to expect. I wasn't expecting much, but it was very good.

7.5/10 BMFs

I watched that last night on Prime, really enjoyed it. Great story, well shot in LA, and good score. 9 out of 10 for me.

Then Boss Level, also on Prime. Brain out guns/fighting film, very entertaining. 8 out of 10.

Watching it on a HD TV on Blu-ray is a real eye opener.

Uncharted

Latest Tom Holland "not Spiderman" gig... oh and Marky Mark, and Antonio Bandyass.

Adventure film by the numbers... done better by Indiana Jones and to a lesser degree by National Treasure.

Barely kept me from looking at my phone throughout 3/10

Yup I'm a big fan of Hans Zimmer. Ridley was back on his game, and Douglas cast perfectly... Sad about the lead
Japanese guy, matsuda, had terminal cancer while filming but didn't tell anyone until close to finishing, and passed shortly after it was released.

I'm going to give Sicario another try tonight (Film4 at 9 or Film4+1 at 10). I've seen bits of it several times over the last few years, but never managed to sit down and watch it all the way through. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.

No hype about this one, it's a solid 8+ in my book.

Put your phone away, turn the lights down and give it your full attention, Great film.

Belfast

A clever movie and different to what I was expecting. Seen through the lens of a child it shows a monochrome Belfast that is stark and unreal which can be quite off putting till you adjust.

The grandparents steal every scene they are in and make the movie for me.

8/10

Liked both Sicario films, first one is excellent. Also try Wind River and Hell or Highwater if you do like it, all written by same fella....as is Yellowstone!

Thanks for the advice, I did what you said and could see that it was a well made film.
Unfortunately not for me.
I don't usually like action thrillers (with a very few exceptions), and this one was no different. I was bored trying to follow the plot, put off by the gratuitous violence, and found the characters unrealistic, and the soundtrack grating.
Sorry, 5 out of 10.

fair play biggbn, you have similar taste in film to me it seems, all those films are excellent. Sicario is simply magnificent, Villeneuve at his best.

Vortex
French / sub-titles now showing on the Indie circuit.

Initially a 3/10 - a ' slit your wrists after viewing' movie showing the final days of an aging couple living in a Paris apartment.
The old guy has a chronic heart disability, his wife suffering from dementia and is prone to wander off to the shops below and leaving the unlit gas stove on. Conversation is sometimes difficult.

Their son has a drug problem, no job but helps at a local crisis centre, but can only occasionally visit and yet unable to help. He has his own family responsibilities including a young boy who appears to have a behavioral issue.
The apartment is full of clutter, years of books, magazines and pamphlets, and a telling moment is when the wife rips up her husband's manuscript of a book he is attempting to write and flushes it down the toilet in the mistaken belief she is tidying up.
The son suggests a care home for both would be a solution but for two people difficult to find and yet he is unable to persuade his father to give up the family apartment that he had lived in for many years and full of memories.

Yes, a depressing movie but another viewpoint is a very realistic interpretation of the social problems we all might find ourselves either as a parent or a well meaning off-spring. You get the full story through to the inevitable ( or not so inevitable ) end and you have to applaud how the Director dealt with a difficult subject. The slide show of his mother through her lifetime is quite moving.

For that reason I suggest a 7/10 is a worthy mark but don't go expecting entertainment - more a reality check on what the future might bring.

Morbius

Yet another superhero(?) origin story, played-out with predictability and a complete lack of imagination. I thought Venom2 was bad but this is worse.

0/10 - I barely watched it whilst watching my phone and would never watch it again. Save yourselves the bother. I took one for you.

Have seen it before but finally found a subtitles version of La Heine last night, not watched it in years and the buffering was awful, but if you have never seen it, it is a proper film, Vincent Cassell is superb
