Operation Mincemeat
My concentration span seems limited these days - I'm not sure if it's a consequence of being over half a century old, the quick-fire type of films and TV series that are mostly prevalent these days, or that I've adapted to watching YouTube more than any other medium (along with the relatively fast exposé of whatever the subject matter is)...
... however I watched this film from end-to-end without break or pause, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I can't really qualify why - the pacing was anything but hollywood bang bang, and it didn't require concentration to understand the plot but it was just very... English. And being a fascinating "real life" story from WWII made it all the more amazing. I knew the story already but the cast really brought it all to life really wonderfully.
Thanks for that. We all know the story and have seen "The Man Who Never Was". I'm trying to decide if it's worth renting from Sky for £15.99 I think you've convinced me a few beers/bottle of red later on this week and settle down on the sofa...My concentration span seems limited these days - I'm not sure if it's a consequence of being over half a century old, the quick-fire type of films and TV series that are mostly prevalent these days, or that I've adapted to watching YouTube more than any other medium (along with the relatively fast exposé of whatever the subject matter is)...

I'm going to give Sicario another try tonight (Film4 at 9 or Film4+1 at 10). I've seen bits of it several times over the last few years, but never managed to sit down and watch it all the way through. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
No hype about this one, it's a solid 8+ in my book.Put your phone away, turn the lights down and give it your full attention, Great film.

I watched Sicario last week too ,I thought I had never seen it to the end before but bits of it were familiar .I have seen Sicario 2 . Soldado 3 times over the last couple of years and prefer that one apart from when the kid shoots Benicio in the head.
I'm going to try Once upon a time in Hollywood tomorrow ,all 3 1/4 hours ,bet I don't last more than 1 hour of Tarantino weird madness .,,

Memory
Liam Neeson again plays another hitman with a heart wanting to get out of the game but then is forced to take on one more job which brings back some painful memories for him.
This time he's delving into child prostitution and government corruption on the US/Mexico border.
His angle in this film is he has Alzheimer's so he has difficulty remembering a lot of the finer details.
FBI agent Guy Pearce and his partner (the Asian girl from C4's Hullraisers randomly) are trying to work out what's going on after a spate of murders.
Decent cast including Ray Stevenson and Monica Bellucci and a lot better than the other films Neeson has been in lately, however I think he's too old for these types of films now.
Nothing amazing but enjoyable nonetheless.
6/10

It is a wonderful film and I could have taken another hour . Best to be au fait with the Polanski/ Tate / Manson story before you watch - the essence of the film's appeal for me was how cleverly it dealt with it. . ^^^^^ Not this.
I thought it was poor, self indulgent, at least half an hour too long, and descended into silliness.
He got the "look" of the era right.
Completely disagree with this. They should have shaved an hour off at least!I thought it was poor, self indulgent, at least half an hour too long, and descended into silliness.

Actually, one of the few films where I couldn’t believe where the time went. Maybe watching it at the cinema added to the experience.
