Dead Draw https://m.imdb.com/title/tt3412784/?ref_=m_nmfmd_a... Think imdb has it spot on. Convoluted, tedious and distinctly average

Dragged to 'Ticket To Paradise' which is the new one with Julia Roberts and George Clooney

Seemed like an advert for Bali with beautiful scenery, sadly very little story line. Other half enjoyed it, me not so much.
3 sea turtles out of 10.

Netflix - The Last Mercenary.

Jean-Claude Van Dam not taking himself too seriously. Has that Frech comedy/action vibe that's a bit slapstick and took me a while to get into. Overall enjoyed it but no classic but fun brain out film.
6 Side Kicks out of 10.

Netflix - Mr. Harrigan's Phone
Bit slow, film builds to a finale which fizzles out.
4 Flip Phones out of 10.

Luckiest Girl Alive (2022)

Traumatic high school shooting film, aka ‘Gossip Girl’ with Mila Kunis

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/f...

Plus points:
Mila Kunis
Mila Kunis
Mila Kunis
The younger Mila looks a bit like Raducanu.

Other points:

Mildly Traumatic.
Not enough trigger warnings for snowflakes…

On Netflix out this week I believe…
Watched it yesterday, it brings nothing new, I've seen the same story line and characters multiple times.

Very late to the party, I watched Top Gun - Maverick after cynicism grown from thinking the first one was st back in the late 80s.

Thoroughly enjoyed it in a predictable-buddy-story sort of way.

Was it only me that thought the whole final mission was just a remake of Star Wars ANH?

F14/F18
Nope with the spolier thing, but I also thought the rest of it was utter bilge. Basically a remake of the first one, with absolutely none of the elements that made the first one so good. Yes, the flying scenes were impressive, but that sort of thing doesn't make a movie good.

Jerry and Marge go large - on prime - Bryan Cranston and Annette Benning, based on a true story about a winning the lottery several times. A real feel good movie, 5 out of 6 matching numbers.

The Lodge - Sky Premier

Two siblings go to a remote lodge for Christmas with their dads new girlfriend for a couple of days while the dad goes back to work in the city.

Soon enough strange things start to happen while staying at the lodge.

Slow burn horror in the style of Hereditary/Midsommer.

Ok for a watch, also has an aged Alicia Silverstone in it

5.5/10.

They both ripped off the best bits of 633 Squadron, but who cares when it looks that good?

Not really, I've done quite a lot of interesting and exciting things compared to many.

Boring rehashed plot films always disapoint though.

Prisoners of the Lost Universe (Netflix) - beyond dreadful. I was trying to eatch it as a kitsch curiosity but it seems to be beyond that. So bad it's good and then tipping into even worse

Significant Other on Paramount +
Bit of a weird film really. It goes a bit unexpectedly sci-fi halfway through, and leaves you thinking...WTF confused?
A young couple go on a backpacking hike through the wilderness, bit a thing falling from the sky early on leads to bad things happening.

Vengeance 2022 cinema and streaming if outside of UK
I liked this comedy mystery. Funny and fairly smart, it sets out to explore the faultline between the two tribes at large in the USA today. A metropolitan, liberal podcaster gets an invite from the family of a girl he once had a hook up with to attend her funeral. Given she appears to have died in mysterious circumstances, there may be an opportunity for a crime podcast, so he sets out into MAGA land, despite having barely known her. This film will (and does) insult both sides and made me laugh out loud. Good cast too. Starring, written and directed by B.J. Novak, who apparently was in the US version of The Office

Woody Allen's time travelling version of a rom com. I missed this completely when it came out and having seen it, wonder why as it's a great film. Fab for a Friday evening film with the better half.
8 great literary figures out of 10

This Island Earth 1955 YouTube
Sci-fi from the 50's complete with rubber monsters and the most wooden acting I've ever seen (yes I'm looking at you Rex Reason). Strangely compelling but also weirdly slow and rubbish at the same time.

Seemed very much like an updated Trainspotting, but some really quite funny scenes. Not the intended horror film we were looking for, but a good watch none the less.

8/10

Edited to add - had to turn on subtitles for SisterD lol!

I think James McAvoy deserved much more recognition for his role in Filth. It was a brilliant portrayal of mental breakdown.

Mila Kunis is lovely.... but...

The actor that played her younger self... it's the second time I've seen her play this slightly mentally unhinged character and it makes me wonder if there's any of "her" in those characters.

The film was utterly ste.

Dog Soldiers

I had the dvd many moons ago which my very young kids found and scared the bejesus out of themselves looking at the cover images of (hehe). Siblings being as they are, werewolves became the things they used to taunt/freak each other out with.

Fast forward 10 years and my daughter unexpectedly announced last night that she was ready to watch it.

Such a great film. 8/10 for the bantz.
