Not sure where to begin with this, other than to say its bat st crazy, makes no sense, has sub plots added then discarded, a ridiculous time line, a lead who they obviously wanted to be Chris Pratt but isn't, and Halley Berry showing she could be in a worse film than catwoman.

Oh and the cgi is rubbish

3 stolen ideas out of 10, and that's just because I had the chance to have a couple of beers.

Zero intrigue, zero plot, zero character development, so zero fks given.

About time Hollywood buried this format once and for all.
utter garbage
My review or the film itself? smile

In comparison to the film your review was literary genuis.

I watched it "for free" with Cineworld Unlimited and still felt massively hard done by. The worst film I've seen in years.

I'm also intrigued why Henry Cavill is still interested in playing Superman given DC just don't seem to understand what it is to make a genuinely interesting film.
Having watched Eternals and Thor: Love and Thunder recently I'm pretty sure Marvel have forgotten how to make an interesting film too. The early Iron Man, Thor and Captain America films were fairly decent but the newer ones are crap in comparison. I'm holding out some hope that Deadpool 3 might be ok.
Absolutely fair comment. Mind you, Marvel was bought by Disney which seem intent on ruining everything (for adults) that they touch.

We Are Not Alone (on Dave, so you have a fair idea of how good it is) - aliens invade/take-over earth: a comedic film which I enjoyed, but it is bang average (at best). Sadly it seems that the writers couldn't decide if they wanted to have an all out comedy or a comedic film and so promptly wasted a good opportunity by having neither.

This week I found 'The Way Ahead' (1944) on Youtube.

It's a WW2 British propaganda film starring David Niven, William Hartnell, John Laurie and loads of "faces" you'll know if you watch any films from UK studios in the 1950s and early 1960s. It follows a platoon of young conscripts into the fictional "Duke Of Glendon's Light Infantry" during the period 1941 to 1943 (I think). It deals with the shock of civilians ranging from the Houses Of Parliament boilerman to a travel agent all being thrown together, mixing between middle class and working class, and the obvious shock to the system of the move from civilian life to military discipline. I'm guessing David Niven was seconded to the studio to play his part as I'm sure he served in the army during WW2.

Written by Peter ustinov too, who also co-starred (although I wouldn't have recognised him if it hadn't been pointed out) as a French hotel/bar/cafe owner in the North African town where the final scenes are set.

The version I saw was colourised, but in quite a hit and miss way, from the black and white original, and it also lacked the closing credits. I'm never sure that I've seen the whole film when it's on Youtube but I think it was all there but for the credits. An hour and fifty four minutes long I watched it in chunks around doing other things. It could even be seen as a prototype for Full Metal Jacket, but in an altogether more polite, clipped English kind of a way, and with a lot less emphasis on the combat at the end. Strange, also, seeing John Laurie (Dad's Army's Private Fraser) in an earlier role in khaki, along with William Hartnell playing a similar character (training Sergeant) to the one he played again in Carry On Sergeant in 1958.

Made in 1944 it's clear and obvious propaganda to encourage men to join up, and to reassure them that they will be properly trained and cared for by their officers and NCOs, but I really enjoyed it. In many ways it's better written in terms of characters than some of the big studio war films made after the war was over.

Some links to different versions on Youtube...

Yup, it's an excellent film. Haven't seen the colourized version, so shall add it to my watch later, cheers.

There is something special about those old British War movies. Everyone always seems so normal in it!

To lower the tone, last night on ITV4:

Con Air

The classic Nicolas Cage action movie about a bunch of convicts hijacking an aeroplane, with a star-studded cast.

If you haven’t seen it and like brain-out fun, explosions and comedy retorts then for Gods sake watch it! Oh and Steve Buscemi steals every scene he’s in.

Yes, totally agreed on your first comment, it is utterly fabulous.

Seeing it with the music live must be awesome!

Triangle of Sadness
I can only describe it as Titanic meets I'm a celebrity. Absolutely superb cinematography which really captures the vapid and amusing existence of the characters.
Brilliantly weird.
9/10 - looses 1 point because of an annoying open ended scene at the end!

Yesterday I watched The Outfit which is currently being shown on Sky Movies. It stars Mark Rylance and Simon Russel Beale. It's a bit of a slow burner but worth sticking with.

Excuse me but with respect. There is only one The Outfit starring Robert Ryan, Robert Duvall and Joe Don Baker'
An outstanding Revenge / Mafia of the 70's seen very rarely but worth seeking out.

Earl Macklin robs a bank owned by the mob, serves his prison time and is released, only to start a private war against the crime outfit that owned the bank.

One of my 3 all time movies of the genre which includes Point Blank ( Lee Marvin ) and Charlie Varrick ( Walter Matthou )

Just finished 'Troll'.

Excellent bit of Norwegian cinema! It's a sort of low peril Norwegian Godzilla film.

If you liked 'Trollhunter', or 'Rare Exports', (both fantastic), this should be right up your alley

Warriors of Future.
That's how it's spelled it's not a typo.
Japanese Sci-Fi. Good special effects, but a typical Japanese mix of characters, stoic, clown, old hand etc. Godzilla type monsters and lots of self sacrifice.

Re. Superman

There's an interesting concept touched upon but never explored in depth about how superman would be in our very political and fake news world, where the lines of the Good West and Evil East are no longer clear cut... I'd be interested in a Trump v superman style movie....

Looking forward to this as I did like Trollhunter.
