Re. Superman

There's an interesting concept touched upon but never explored in depth about how superman would be in our very political and fake news world, where the lines of the Good West and Evil East are no longer clear cut... I'd be interested in a Trump v superman style movie....
Wasn't that a running theme of Spiderman vs the Press and also the masked vigilantes of Watchmen who ended up either working for the government or outlawed?

Just finished 'Troll'.

Excellent bit of Norwegian cinema! It's a sort of low peril Norwegian Godzilla film.

If you liked 'Trollhunter', or 'Rare Exports', (both fantastic), this should be right up your alley

https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/736526-troll

Looking forward to this as I did like Trollhunter.
I didn't like it as much as some others on here.
It was like a film you'd see on the Sy-Fi channel or something, with all those rip off versions of films they do.

It was more, let's nick all the ideas from Hollywood films and stuck them in 1 movie.
Jurassic Park, Godzilla, The Core etc etc, you could play spot the reference.

The acting and script wasn't the best either.

I thought it was ok for a watch but nothing great.

Can't please everyone.

Mind you, Norwegian trolls predate Jurassic Park, Godzilla, etc.

Black Adam

Somebody please save us from these frantic super-hero CGI fests.

Zero intrigue, zero plot, zero character development, so zero fks given.

About time Hollywood buried this format once and for all.
utter garbage
My review or the film itself? smile
The film my friend

Yup and I love all those, hence why I think a superman set in that landscape would be pretty interesting....

Yes

OK for one watch. Probably getting a lot of views as trending on Netflix and free.

The Office Christmas Party

I wouldn’t normally watch this as the reviews weren’t that brilliant, but it is December leading up to Christmas, we did have a log fire going and a couple of glasses of wine to dull my selection choice.

A ridiculous premise but several laugh out loud moments. A mad office party is conjured up to save a business. Jason Bateman and Jennifer Anniston star giving it their usual input.

6 coked up partygoers/10 ridiculously drunk office colleagues

Evangelion 1.11 and 2.22 and 3.33. Fairly famous "mecha" anime from a TV show, in 3 film form with one to go. The setting is repeated huge mechanoid battles over future Tokyo, but the focus is on what the characters go through. Teen heroes driven by ruthless adults in a war with lots of myth, symbolism, and philosophy from Japan, the Middle East, and Europe.

I've not seen the TV show, but in this form the underlying plot is pretty much incomprehensible. You are carried along as confused as our hero.

Probably one for true Anime fans rather than the curious.

Yesterday I watched The Outfit which is currently being shown on Sky Movies. It stars Mark Rylance and Simon Russel Beale. It's a bit of a slow burner but worth sticking with.
shot during Covid - has the stage play feel about it.

The Bombardment (Netflix)

Danish film about a raid to destroy the Gestapo headquarters in Copenhagen during WW2 that goes wrong.

Based on a true story, with some complex themes being explored.

Highly recommended.
Just came across this by accident. Very good and very sad.

Looks brilliant as well.

Farha - Netflix

Middle eastern film that has won a lot of independent film festival awards and based on a true story.

Set in Palestine in 1948 tells the story of teenage girl Farha who is the daughter of a village mayor.
Not willing to succumb to the pressures of village life/early marriage, Farha seems like she wants to make a better life for herself and decides to study in the city.
Just as she's about to leave after finally getting her dad to agree to it, war breaks out and the Israeli army move in disposing of people from their homes.
Her dad locks her in the pantry to keep her safe and disappears, leaving her there to witness the horror unfold through the cracks in the door and wondering what will happen to her next.

It's not very long and feels like a short story on film but I guess it's just a glimpse of what went on around that time from one girls.

There's a couple of disturbing scenes also, which weren't great to watch or even think about.

Bloodshot Vin Diesel is an American soldier who is killed and brought back to life using some nano technology or other, then sets out for revenge on the person who killed him. Turns out that he's being manipulated and has to free himself from the technology. A decent enough film, though the section supposed to be set in London but featuring all sorts of stuff that can't be in the UK is ridiculous.

Ghost in the Shell
Not really my cup of tea if I'm honest. Sort of remotely iRobot'ish I guess.
5/10 because it was visually quite impressive in 4k HDR.

Just legendary - between that, the sequel (not III), 48 hrs, Trading Places, Coming to America, etc. I can't think of a better decade for cinemagraphic output...

They are like watching 90 minutes each of Call of Duty connecting scenes.
