Christ, dull and weird. Two guys in a tiny island, off the coast of Ireland stop being friends in the 1920s. You can imagine how exciting life is on that island, well after that it is just weird and slow and depressing.

Arty types might think its great but if that's not you save yourself 2hrs of your life.
For a balanced view. I am not an arty type and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great acting, great story and great scenery, just go together to make an enjoyable watch.

Give it a go…

I'm all weary of the gushing reviews on the web as usually the films end up being dull (you don't get it types)

Seen it might give it a miss.

I think the arty types who vote at the Oscars also gave it a body swerve. How can you make such a dull movie with not one, but two great actors? If you haven’t seen it, spend your time more enjoyably by watching the grass grow for 2 hours.

We tried the Everything et cetera film last night.

We really tried, eventually after 40 minutes switched it off. Couldn’t imagine nearly another two hours of the same stuff. Just couldn’t see what all the hype was about.

Maybe, just maybe if you really haven’t got anything else better to do then possibly you could sit through it but all the time you would ask yourself, why?

Doesn't that apply to any movie? It's just entertainment, after all.

biggrin well all sorts really, nothing specific, everything from Life of Brian to Alien vs Predator to Forrest Gump to animated movies. Banshees film title massively oversold it IMO. It needed a title that reflected it better, such as Weird dull friends or Boring Island Oddballs or A solution for insomniacs

You are quite correct, but there are also levels of enjoyment. There are many films out there that I want to see again and really look forward to the experience. If I managed to sit through Anything, there would never be a time that I would want to watch it again. Therefore it wasn’t an experience I would want to repeat.

You may have enjoyed the film, that is fine, we all have different tastes. For me, it was as pointless as watching John Wick!

Most car chases these days look like they're only going about 30mph.

Anyway - partway through The Cannonball Run and DAMN Farrah Fawcett was beautiful.

[Edit] Finished - the outtakes alone are worth the effort.

laugh They must have all had such great fun during filming.

I've never seen Cannonball II. I read the Wiki synopsis last night and I never want to watch it now.

II is definitely crapperer. The unofficial 3rd with John Candy is even worse.

Cannonball Run was what I watched repeatedly as a kid. Must have been hundreds of views in the same way kids rewatch Frozen nowadays.

Could literally recite the lines as they went!

To counterbalance, I wanted to like it (I've enjoyed many films with the lead actors) but the Irish quirkiness lost its appeal after 15 mins or so. Weird, slow and depressing sums it up well. It's clearly a "good" film, well acted and shot, but not really an enjoyable one.

Love, love, love The Cannonball Run.

Cannonball II - no thanks. As with many other sequels - they should have left well alone imo.

I watched 'Everything, Everywhere, All At Once' (4k Bluray Disc)

I thought it was solid but I thought Kung Fu Hustle (2004) was quite a bit better.

8/10 karate chops from me.

I feel they are both in the 'bonkers but brilliant' bucket.

Genuinely surprised at the EEAAO Oscar glory though. Pleased for them.

Shattered on Prime

Gets very low reviews, but I actually enjoyed it. It is a cheesy booby(Seems a common theme with films nowadays) sort of film, don't want to say too much.

John Malkovich as a seedy apartment owner is brilliant, really worth a watch if you don't take yourself too seriously and don't expect a lot besides low budget acting and a dollop humour with a bit of a rip of of another film.

Exactly the same with the Smokey and the Bandit films. Only the first of each remain watchable.

The direct involvement of Hal Needham and Brock Yates in the original, and the close parallels to the real sea to shining sea memorial trophy races is something truly special, and unrepeatable.

Super tough working out the themes in Banshees, what with all the explosions & gunfire going on in the background and all while the two protagonists play out their own what's the word? Oh yeah, conflict.
