Punisher. Didn’t know this existed until someone at work mentioned it when we were discussing the TV series. Not a patch on said series, Punisher himself is no double hard mo-fo that we see in the series, more a bit of a wet wipe really. Anyway, no idea how it ended as I got bored a long way before the end and switched over. Not sure I’ll bother revisiting.

Which of the many Punisher movies are you referring to? Wikipedia lists 1989, 2004, and 2008 for live action films plus a load of animated ones.

Interesting nugget about the 2004 one - in the fight where the Russian gets stabbed in the chest, they accidentally used the wrong prop and it's actually exactly what it looks like.

Blimey, I know even less than I thought I did! Anyways, the one with John Travolta in it (hopefully he was only in one!).

Nobody starring Bob Odenkirk. A John Wick light movie which does not take itself too seriously, has some great action scenes. Well worth a watch a solid 7.5 out of 10.

Guys, my monthly indulgence is the Mystery Film at the local Independent Cinema. Until the doors close and the lights go out, you never know what is offered, but apparently members of staff put their choice into a hat and it is as random as that.
So, this week being St Patricks Day I had already made my expectation clear but I was wrong. A soft luxury seat with glass holder and £6 ticket - what could be better?

The film this time was Rope, Alfred Hitchcock's first film in colour in 1948.
Its one I've never seen before and a superb film of a murderer's ego (John Dall ), his friend's guilty anxiety ( Farley Granger ) and seeing the plot for what it was by a dinner guest (James Stewart ). The 'gentle' murder happens in the opening scene.

Where is the story going, will he / wont he, does he succeed ? A one set movie with a great script and the only blood is when Farley Granger breaks a champagne glass in his hand while stressing his anxiety. A masterful example of movie making - don't overlook it if you have never seen it. The laughs and tension at various times meant I was not alone.
8 Candelabras / 10 Vol au vents.

Watched Plane tonight, the Gerard Butler fighting baddies in the jungle ‘thing’.

Was ok for a Saturday night, some good visual effects when the baddies get shot, but would have been better if they cut the ‘going home to my daughter’ schmaltzy crap.

The team back at the plane company’s headquarters had some really cheesy lines too.

Overall, 5.5/10.

Hmm- a promising start (but Odenkirk can do little wrong in my house) before the awful realisation dawns that this is yet another film belonging to the vast genre whose scriptwriter confuses violence with plot . .

Interplanetary traveller crashes spacecraft on unknown planet not realising it's Earth days before THAT asteroid hits and wipes out all living things.

Saw in cinema, 6/10.

The Greatest Beer Run Ever

Vietnam war based film, basically a guy delivers beer to some enlisted friends.

Great pacing, comedy with thought provoking drama. Great soundtrack, nice Sunday watch.

Blimey. Given what I have read about it, I would hate to see your 1/10 films eek

Humm that was on the cards for tonight but I got side tracked this afternoon by a few lagers with frozen margarita tops. I guess will give a miss in that case.

So much better than John Wick. which was just ridiculous rubbish. Unbelievable that they made a two, three and four!

Scream IV

I really enjoyed 5 and I'd say this was even better. It surprises me that they continue to keep these films original and (IMO) keep you guessing as to who the killer is. The new core cast they have do well to carry the film whilst they drop in some returning characters from previous entries.

No Neve Campbell this time but I didn't miss her, I do find the Scream franchise much easier to follow than some others (Saw for example) because they've kept the character list relatively tight and related. They also continue to lean into the almost 4th wall breaks by using the Stab franchise to base their approach to survive which is always amusing.

A definite increase in gore this time but not over the top, 7.5 rusty blades out of 10.

The 2008 one is much better, I'd recommend for fans of gritty action movies.

The Boston Strangler with Keira Knightly, it's on one of the streaming services and IMDB says "Loretta McLaughlin was the reporter who first connected the murders and broke the story of the Boston Strangler. She and Jean Cole challenged the sexism of the early 1960s to report on the city's most notorious serial killer.".

Enjoyable, if a little slow paced film that we put on on a whim and glad we did. It's about the reporters covering the murders more than the murders themselves but I don't think it loses anything for that. Not sure I'd ever seek it out to watch again but an enjoyable 7/10.

I don't think I could sit through a 1/10.
Although a great premise: Spacecraft crash lands on the land before time, it's all been seen before, many times. I had quite high hopes and went to the late viewing as well.

Highlander (1986) 4k Blu-ray Disc.

This was a hyped and long anticipated release and I am disappointed.

Yes, it is nice to see New York in full 'Gritty 80's' look and the Scottish highlands look spectacular but apart from a few choice Queen soundtrack moments (it features 9 Queen tracks in total) the picture and overall sound quality is dog rough for a 4k blu-ray.

5 throat slashes out of 10.

Yep, they had to make do with presenting...

Well, yes indeed, the bear has been tripping on acid since the 70s....
