does beg the question (I honestly don't know, not being at all interested in the royals) if the heir was gay would that preclude him/her from getting the top job these days?
Until very recently, being female did. It's only in the last few years that the rules have been changed from "oldest male heir" to "oldest heir".

Not sure on sexuality and it's an interesting question when it comes to a hereditary monarchy.

Can't see that it would, but would then raise the question of their heir. I suppose much as is now, second in line would step up.

The Strays

Just occasionally a film comes along that is so bad that I am confused and appalled in equal measure as to how it ever got made, and how they managed to make it so crap. Further thoughts along the lines of:

Well, there's an hour and a half of my life I'll never get back.

How, if you can't act AT ALL, how is it you are starring in films, and in the lead role no less? Similar thoughts for the rest of the cast tbh.

I hope that screenwriting isn't the writer's day job.

If that's the best the director can do, I might as well have a go myself, couldn't do worse.

Why TF have they set it in a fictional place called 'Castle Combe' in Wiltshire? Castle Combe in Wiltshire is an actual place which bears absolutely zero resemblance to any of the weird mish-mash of locations featured? Why not just call it something else. Weird.

Unless I am missing some really clever point (unlikely), that was pretty bad from a racial stereotyping POV. Life is good, then black people turn up and are criminal, violent, unpleasant and ruin everything. Lazy.

I won't go on. I could, but I probably shouldn't.

1 pointless waste of time out of 10. And that's being generous.

I enjoyed Star Trek Beyond today (Paramount+) - 'interesting' to see drone swarms and drone attacks featured given current events (though to be fair the first drone-swarm attack was, apparently, 8 years prior)

Currently watching Old on 4-7

Question:

How come the children havebegun to behave like adults when it's only their cells which are aging?

It's pretty crap, BTW. Not well acted and lazily filmed.

Not to be confused with Strays obviously, which I thought was most amusing smile

I was wondering why the talking dogs weren't mentioned hehe . The Strays is a British horror film on Netflix I've never heard of, Strays is the comedy film with the talking dogs and dick jokes.

Indeed. In fact, if The Strays had thrown in a few dick jokes, it might have had one redeeming feature.

The Report

Adam Driver as a staffer who compiles a report on the CIA's use of torture post 9/11.

I found the film more driven by the appalling nature of the subject matter rather than the film itself.

I finished it feeling suitably outraged so it obviously worked on some levels. An important watch.

Unfrosted

On Netflix, some people seem to really like it but I found it deeply unfunny given the talent in it. There are one or two funny scenes and a couple of good jokes but overall it was very middle of the road. Seemed like it didn't know what it wanted to be.

If you really like Jerry Seinfeld, give it a go but if like me you thought every other character in Seinfeld was actually funnier than Seinfeld himself, maybe give it a miss.

The Idea Of You. Amazon Prime. Starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, it chronicles the love affair between a single mother and the lead singer of a popular boy band. Quite long, at near 2 hours. Left me a bit disappointed. One minute they were on, then off, then on etc etc. The romantic in me would like to think that when he walked back in to her gallery 5 years on that they'd both still be single, and get it back on but who knows. A few amusing moments, AH's character screams seeing on her laptop that they've been papped, and her daughter passing on a message from a male school friend 'tell your Mum I'm 18 next month'

5 milfs outta 10 is all I can score.

The Mauritanian - Netflix

Although it's been out a few years, I'd never seen it but it's just popped up on Netflix so gave it a go.

The true life story of Mohamedou Slahi, a Mauritanian resident who is arrested by the local police and then transported to Guantanamo Bay under the accusation of being the main recruiter of the terrorists behind 9/11, however the evidence is lacking.

Jodie Foster is the lawyer who picks up his case and decides to fight for his freedom against military lawyer Benedict Cumberbatch and the US Government, while he's in there for 14 odd years and being subjected to all sorts of horrible torture.

Very good film and some great performances especially from the lead Tahar Rahim who plays Slahi.

Nitpicking but I do wish someone had taken De Niro to one side & explained how to pronounce Hereford.

Apparently they used RHD cars, and simply fitted LHD dashboards to them. That's why you see DeNiro looking absolutely terrified as he's "driving" and sawing away at the wheel - he's a passenger.

Watched American Beauty last night, which I will admit I managed to miss when it came out. Story about a dysfunctional suburban family in the US, where the dad (Spacey) decides he's had enough of it all.

Despite the weirdness of watching anything with Spacey in it these days - especially the bits around his daughter's friend given the allegations - really enjoyed it. Despite it being hinted at all through the film the ending still blind sided me a bit, but overall very good I thought.

8.5 Government created strains of weed out of 10.

Got a strange urge to listen to Jakatta now...
