Just been going through a heap of VHS tapes to digitise to my PC. One of the recordings I have is from Granada Reports of a short feature series they did in the late 90s (I think) called "Mad About Motors" regarding classic cars. Can't remember what the chap's name in the program was (Bob something) and the woman, who didn't seem to have a clue about cars. In the first episode they look at the motors of a classic car dealer named Martin Ingham, who owned a large collection of classic vehicles, one a lightweight E-Type. No idea If this chap is still around, and I can't find anything about this particular lightweight E-Type on the xkedata site, but according to the DVLA it's still on the road.

In the second episode they look at American classics. In another episode they take a look at kit cars and drive a Royale Sabre.

Anyone remember this series?.

I will try and upload a few of these episodes to youtube.

Here's a screenshot from said programme:

There was someone with that name (or I think it was that name, at least) who used to advertise in NW Auto Trader every week, I went to see a quattro there once and I think he had a newer one (which was out of my price range) at the same time.

Here's a few more screenshots from this program showing some of this dealer's collection. I think he may've been from the Bolton area. No idea whether that lightweight E-Type is a real one or a recreation/rebody (nothing shows up on the xkedata site under the lightweights section of that site, and I would've thought it would've been well documented). The Bentley Turbo T shows as a 1997 Bentley, so the program must've been shown in or after 1997.

The guy must've been seriously minted with all those motors. I don't think Jay Leno has that many in his garage lol.

He's still going. Always used to have full page adverts in Autotrader. His place is on Stich-Mi-Lane in Harwood.

Autotrader seems abit obscure for advertising classic cars. I would've thought he would adver
etised through the likes of PH or car and classic. I'd never heard of this dealer until I watched that Mad About Motors program. How old is that advert?. I wonder how much that E-Type was going for. Anyone know anything about his lightweight?. In the program he said his fav was his Countach and the lightweight. Seemed to be abit old to be driving a Lamborghini to me. The woman presenter says "the kind of people who by from Martin, land on his lawn in an helicopter".

40k for a Low Drag Lightweight?. In the late 90s plenty of Es could be had for around 12 grand. 40k would just about get you a half decent 2+2 today. A car like that would fetch nearer a million today. 240k for that brand new Bentley Turbo T must've been a huge amount of money back in the late 90s, and still is.

I mentioned this on the classics section and someone told me that they know Martin Ingham and that they had spoke to him recently but that he dosen't sell anymore (I've posted the link to the video). I would love to know more about that low drag E-Type. Nothing comes up on xkedata. He looked to be getting on abit in that programme in the 1990s. I presume that Bentley Turbo was brand new at the time, so it would be 1997 onward when it was shown.

I worked with Martin from 2007 to 2011 and the Lightweight E Type is one of 12 I believe, Bryan Wingfield replicas, V5 states it's an S Type, well built and suitable for 'touring' however it doesn't have a heater!
It sat for a few years unused, I re-commissioned it and had it MOT'd a few times but it really needs the fuel system flushing and the triple Webers setting up correctly. I don't think Martin is trading anymore and is in his '70's.

So it's a replica, explains why on the dvla is says Jaguar rather than E-Type, and correct if I'm wrong but I think the low drags were made earlier than 67. Nice car all the same though.

Yes, it was me who commented on another post regarding Martin Ingham. . Yes, he has definitely retired from selling cars. I’m sure he won’t mind me saying that he had a stroke a few years ago, and although recovered well, he felt he didn’t want the stress that selling high end cars can sometimes bring. He now helps out his son, who was a good friend of my son at school, in a Koi Carp business.

My brother bought an E30 325i convertible from Martin back in 1991. The place is incredible and we spent a long time there looking around his collection, going through photo albums and stuff. It was a very enjoyable afternoon.

His Autotrader adverts were brilliant, each car being described as though it were it a dating advert. A convertible Ferrari for example might be something like 'Fiery Italian redhead who loves to take her top off' biggrin
