It went from seeming rather improbable, to being utterly implausible, but then still managed to remain enjoyable enough for me to want to give episode two a chance.

I could have changed over but Hugh Lawrie kept my attention. By the end of the first episode a few surprising relationships of the supporting characters whet my appetite for the next episode.
I think you mean unlikely relationships.

The whole thing was full of holes:

Barrister investigating someone she has just represented (successfully)
Minister walking around London with his red box
Driver taking car home
PM giving minister a sideways role, rather than promotion, because of knowledge of possible skeletons

Not to mention the cliched/lazy stereotypes and plot “devices” (so telegraphed I’m not sure you could even call them that):

Minister having affair
Chippy aide
Chippy aide shagging his boss’s boss’s aide
Daughter taking drugs
Secret daughter in prison, where there was a riot, just before he was appointed justice minister

Plus the AA meeting. Is that what they do? Can’t have a drink, coffee’s a bit boring so just meet and fk?

But still, is left wing tosh bashing the Tories so a winner for the BBC. Is this really the best they can come up with? If so, scrap the TV licence and let us decide which subscription model we want and see how they do.

Searching prisoners accommodation without said prisoners being present to observe the search, big no no,and there would be next to zero chance of finding drugs in the cell as you don’t need much of an imagination to think where the girls stash the drugs and hey presto they were marched off the the dinning hall with not even a cursory search.

Bit of a stinker.

Obviously made pre-Covid and one might be inclined to wonder why it's taken a while to see the light of day...

I kept getting Tom James (the character Hugh Laurie played in “Veep”) from him. That was enough to hold my attention, although I don’t suppose he’s meant to be playing a comedy character, but the rest was fairly run of the mill stuff.

I’ll stick with it but it’s clear to see the straight, white middle-aged male character is going to be brought down by a whole range of female/gay/BAME characters. One will probably turn up in a wheelchair in the next episode (maybe as a result of the prison riot) for the complete diversity set.

I finished it, rather enjoyed it after a poor start.

Plenty of loose ends for S2.

I just realised the remaining eps were on iPlayer so I’ve got them downloading to my Sky+ box now. I’ll crack on with them later.

Didn't notice but in real life they have a big pool of cars. Thought it was odd his driver seemed to take it home with her - again, surely that's another thing they don't do?
Why surely?

Did nobody watch episode 2? There seems to be a dearth of comments since last week!

I watched, and as much as there might be a decent core story, there seems to be a awful lot of ‘stuff’ going on for a 4 episode series.

Nope.

And from the comments that went straight up on here, I didn't even watch the start of Ep1!!!

I'm only watching this thread in case there's a sudden trend of people going "Oh GOD, that was so good"..... and I'm not holding my breath, but sometimes PH proves me wrong on things! hehe

I wasn’t in any hurry to watch episode 2. Might watch it some time this week if I get bored!

Yep.

I Agree, to me it was way too bright and irritating.

Watched the final episode Sunday night, and I imagine that there must be a second series, there was so much left unsaid and undiscovered, that I’m surprised that the credits didn’t roll to the sound of Johnny Nash singing, “There are more questions than answers.”

Not sure there are any cliches left to crow bar into a second series ...

Watched it through to the end, it was 'okay'. Too many cliches. too many plot holes, too many 'mistakes' . But it's a TV programme and it did entertain me . 3 stars from me. Bloody 'circus' music all the way through got on my nerves.

If anyone can manage it, I feel sure that the BBC can.

Another very well acted drama, with a pointless script.
