Caught the last half of the one that was on today, 3 bed semi in Leeds 30k loss. Baffles me that they always seem to do a half arsed DIY job of the painting, making all the previous work look ste. I'm a Deccy and relatively speaking we're a cheap trade to have in compared to the big jobs.

In her defence, the ‘builder’ of the pair did a runner half way through and she was using Facebook begging to get anyone to do painting for free. I admire her resolve to be honest.bigandclever said:

Perhaps being on telly is meant to be payment enough?I suspect Jonny realised it was all going tis up and quit

Are these episodes available on demand anywhere? I feel like I need to see some house renovations that are more dismal than my own
Its on the C4 website
I've banged out 3 episodes so far and I am actually quite annoyed at the fact all 3 groups have been stitched up
I suspect they very much got swept away by the fact it was on TV and probably thought that as so called experts were overseeing it, they would at least make a little bit of dosh

The production team paid far too much for the house. The local agent reckoned £260k all modernised and yet they paid £210k for a wreck. Poor girl was on a hiding to nothing from the start.
With the "costs" of taxes etc. usually standing at about £20k the participants need to factor that figure into their initial calculations but I bet they're never made aware until the last minute.

watched one episode on demand where the pair were getting on well, a few weeks in and they moved in together as flatmates and then at the end she was pregnant
It turns out he moved away for work and she met an old flame...
They do seem to set most pairs up to fail with budget and the strict timescale. The poor lad with the sloping floors....they must get to a point where they know they won't finish in time, won't make a profit and realise they are torturing themselves for nothing so down tools and walk away

I'm really enjoying this, the presenter is brilliant, not too nice, quite balanced with his help.
I like the fact it's showing how bloody difficult it would be to buy and make profit, too many people forget the fees etc.
Never worth 6 months of hard work so far!
The only issue is that the contestants don't have anything to lose, there's no jeopardy for them. If it was their own deposit they had to invest in to it then you wouldn't see them doing daft stuff like ripping out a perfectly good kitchen etc.I like the fact it's showing how bloody difficult it would be to buy and make profit, too many people forget the fees etc.

I’ve been enjoying it, been watching on catch-up so still have 9 or so left.
Never understand the massive fees added on, and wonder if they’re liable at all for any of the shortfall if they just ps off and don’t finish the project?
Best one I’ve seen so far is the 2 welsh girls (I sat and said to the Mrs this’ll be a disaster and it turned out they proved me wrong and got stuck right in)
