Yeah, you can bet that if anyone knows exactly who/where you are on the Internet ... it's Google.

The fact that they are allowing people to sign up as if they were in a completely different country for a much lower price (when Google surely knows they are in the UK) definitely suggests to me that they are basically trying to get people hooked on the service for when they get around to pulling the rug in the future.
So what you should pay £16.99 in the meantime as you might get charged that in the future? jester

No chance, I pay 1.85 like every other scumbag.

I can't imagine putting up with the ads now however

You're getting done. I paid 80p last month.
Argentina sign up (a few years ago) and pay with Monzo.
I used PIA VPN to sign up.

yes, mine's always 80-odd pence per month too. This is via Argentina. I think the ones paying more are perhaps on some sort of family plan.

Argentina stopped working for me, so went for Ukraine. Works out to around £2. More expensive than you guys are paying but still cheaper than the £10 a month for UK.

Couldn't go back to ads now either!

Just tried Argentina again and it went through all the card verification and I put a random Argentina address in and it said I need a card from my billing country.

Not sure how everyone is getting around that!

Try a different card, I ended up using a capital one card as my first attempt said that.

And yeah I've got family plan so it costs £1 something

When switching VPN to Argentina, do you have to create a brand new Youtube account for Premium, or can you use your current one?

Nope, use your existing account. I just checked and I pay ARS 869 p/month which is about 80p.

I use premium for Youtube Music mainly. The algorithm seems to work well for feeding me music.

I created a new one. Can't risk my main Gmail account in case they delete it for violating TOS.

If I connect my VPN to Argentina, then go to YouTube I get this message, is this because I'm logged into my Youtube account? Should I create a new Google account first, then sub to Premium with the new account?

I didn't say that at all ... you ever considered a career on Channel 4 News? "So you're saying that ..." biggrin

Just pointing out that this is unlikely to last - they are building up an audience of people who get hooked on the service before they pull the rug and then the time will come to either go without or fork out a large amount more per month. Standard marketing tactics only they don't bother having to administer a campaign of 'x months free' or the sort.

Any recommendations for a free or cheap VPN to use so I can maximise my time in Argentina or Turkey..
No need to maximise your time in Argentina or Turkey. The VPN is only needed for the signing up process. Once you have subscribed you won’t need to use a VPN again.
Just use any free trial of a VPN.

Some reason this doesn't seem to work on my phone. Cannot choose any subscription to join, guess i'll have to try it off a laptop.

It doesn't work on my laptop either. I already have Nordvpn and when setting it to Argentina it wont let me navigate to the Premium page.

That works, thanks.

Just got to decide whether to go for the individual (£1.50) or family (£2.50) plan so others in our house can use it too, but it's peanuts either way.

How does the family plan work? I assume it lets anyone in the house with an existing Youtube account gets access, or would they need a new account? Does it only work when people are in the house of the registered address. or even when away from home?

They can use their original account and it never checks where you are, you can live in separate locations.

Thanks CoolHands.

I guess the only other thing to consider is if my card provider charges a currency conversion fee if I have a monthly direct debit in another currency.
