YouTube Premium
Discussion
I'd recommend Youtube premium. I watch youtube almost 100% on my TV screens and it's taken over from channel flipping.
Even at full price it's worth it IMO - costs about the same as a TV licence - and I like to think that I'm helping support the creators that I watch. The included 'Youtube Music' (a really poor name for the service as it's actually a full music streaming service, not just listening to music from YT videos as standalone audio) is a nice bonus and as I was previously paying for Amazon Music I was able to cancel that which recoups a decent sized chunk of the monthly payment. I kind of suspect that they bundled it in to hit music streaming competitors like Spotify and Amazon Music , actually.
You can also download videos and music to your phone/tablet to watch/listen tooffline too. Also handy. And it works with Android Auto if you have an Android Phone.

I’m subbed to over 200 channels on YouTube, which provides me on average up to 30ish new videos a day of varying length. Not saying I watch all of them, but most of them I will watch. Some people only put out vids once every few months; others put out videos daily.
As far as I’m concerned YT gives you access to hundreds of thousands of creators - many of whom have turned their career into making YouTube content therefore put a lot of effort into to make outstanding content equaling that of TV production. But you get to choose what content and creators you want to watch based on your preferences.
I have subs to tech channels, car/automotive channels, how-to channels, documentaries, home Reno, vloggers who live in other countries that I’m interested in and much more.
I used to use YT sparingly too but for the last 3-4 years it is the primary reason that I do not watch any traditional TV any more.

I don't watch as much as that on YT but I watch more YouTube than all other media sources combined.
As to what is on there well seek and you shall find.
There are in depth history channels that cover past events in great detail, certainly more so than the superficial style of the MSM media channels
Kings and Generals is great for anything prior to the modern era.
World War 2 is a decent week by week account of the second world war.
if you are interested in gaming then there are channels that do play throughs of your favourite games. I am a paradox fan and it is actually hard to play their games properly without watching someone doing a playthrough as they are so complex.
In terms of film and TV reviews I have long since given up on MSM reviews. I have one trusted media reviewer in Redlettermedia (who I also back on patreon) and a few others I watch just so I can get an idea of how good a movie TV show actually is rather than how many boxes it ticks.
and for when you are feeling like something a bit different there are plenty of pretty girls on there who have a relaxed attitude to how much clothing they require.

I must've missed that one. Currently I'm plagued by ads for Pepsi, KFC & some concealer/make-up thing. Not sure whether I'm being targeted or worn down. There are some longer ones but I can't remember what any of them are for.
My most common one is for betting companies.I don't actually bet though so it is all a waste of money on their part.

It's actually prompted me to stop watching conventional TV entirely so I've not renewed my TV licence. A while back I got a survey from BBC (from my iPlayer account) presumably because I just haven't used it at all for over a year and one of the main things that came across was that they really considered Youtube and Netflix to be their main 'competitors' - lots of questions about them compared to other terrestrial TV channels and even Sky. Possibly because you still require a TV license even if you only watch the other broadcast stations. The BBC are clearly worried and so they should be - for all the censorship and purges by Youtube I can pick from a good choice of what I want to watch instead of having political viewpoints jemmied into every aspect of programming like the BBC does.
IMO the BBC is unwatchable now, as is C4. ITV was always lowest common denominator dross and Channel 5 is slim pickings. Stopped paying for Sky years ago except for when there is a good NowTV deal on. Not only is the BBC not worth the licence fee, I simply do not want to pay to support their biased programming.
YouTube are trialling Premium Lite for €6.99 per month that just removes the ads https://www.engadget.com/youtube-premium-lite-1135...

Can I just check that the VPN route requires you to be logged into that spurious Google account whenever you want to use the service?
And when you switch accounts in the YouTube app for it then log ALL your Google accounts into the same spurious account??
No, like above i pay in INR and only used a VPN once to set it up And when you switch accounts in the YouTube app for it then log ALL your Google accounts into the same spurious account??
There is no need to use a VPN afterwards, and after a week of it realising i wasnt interested in Bollywood films, you'd never know it was setup in another country.
