Just had the misfortune to encounter a show that is a must avoid. Makes me worry, these people have a vote.

New Quiz Show. BBC2 Lightning.

Stuff me, fronted by Zoe Lyons, who? It's a cross between 15 to 1, the Cube, and a spelling test. Our thoughts that in their desire to bin Eggheads and move the appeal to a younger audience they collected a class of 8 year olds just noted anything they excitedly shouted out and wound them into one format. Plus the questions, none of the contestants would fare well even faced with Tipping Point easier level questions, which to them would seem impossibly hard, especially when they have to not just give the correct answer but also spell it. I mean the words "school" and "corgi" are just so difficult.

Bring back Eggheads!

Before Lingo started , there was another new quiz show , fronted by Omid Djalilli , I really enjoyed that .

It was called Winning Combination , what happened to it ?

When I saw Lingo was a words / spelling thing , switched off instantly , yawn fest .

Mark Williams also hosted a quiz show called The Link which was not far off being identical to the first round of Only Connect but with decent money prizes.

I believe Winning Combination will be back, they just cycle various shows in that time slot.

I noticed that Ben Shephard is one of the producers on LINGO.

Winning Combination easily the best quiz in that slot , don't like Tenable either and Omid's little off the cuff jokes are pretty funny too .

If you prefer celebrity thickos, on Richard Osman's House of Games this week the otherwise-lovely Melinda Messenger has guessed that the Great Wall of China is 300,000 miles long, and Elizabeth 1 first came to the throne in 1903, among other howlers.

Oh yes, sometimes there just are not enough face palms for some of the answers on that show. Points at Naga Munchetty for her attempts on various rounds.

Used to enjoy Pointless but the new woman who has taken over from Richard Osman really does my head in.

All she does is read out the questions and answers from a PC screen.

Osman also had a pc infant of him but you never got the feeling he was just reading the screen.

I knew Richard was leaving , haven't watched it recently , just looked it up ,the new woman is Sally Lindsay .

I quite like her but will take a look at Pointless tomorrow to see if she can fill Richard's vast shoes .

Sally Lindsay is OK on Tenable but I've yet to see her on Pointless. If you don't like her, not to worry, as they are rotating a number of hosts as far as I'm aware.

Not seen any post Osman Pointless, but he was always really good on it.

I do sometimes wonder who the hell the 100 people they ask are. Saw one some time back with sports in French, I think it was only about 85 people had worked out what Tennis De Table was!

In the late 90s we had a school trip from rural Aberdeenshire to Central London and one of the things we did was to go to a recording of some daytime TV shows. I can't remember which ones but there was a clip show hosted by Gabby Logan (some kind of funny sports clips type thing) and a quiz show. There were production assistants going around the audience asking people the questions. Must have been an audience of 400 I think so not everyone was canvassed, but that's how they got the answers for their show. Distinctly remember sitting behind a guy - a production team member - whose job it was to type in all the answers that had been collated into the software they used to reveal the answers to the contestants.

Can't remember anything else at all about that trip, but I remember that bit like it was yesterday.

I think you will find that, at the moment, no. She cannot!

Agreed, too wooden, will that improve with time? Also was a bit stilted when covering for Warwick Davies on Tenable.

You always got the impression that Osman actually knew the answers, which of course he did as they were on the screen before him, but nevertheless, a different level.

The one I remember was a tractor with the some letters missing and I am sure that only around 65 got it right

Just for info, the laptop in Richards time was never switched on, it was just a prop he said so himself in an interview, Sally is ok but a bit wooden at the moment, I read somewhere that they are going to try 6 guest hosts before picking a replacement

I suspect they have someone in mind already for the permanent host, the guest host period is just to ease the transition so people don't make a direct comparison from Osman to the new man (or lady).

(As above, I am often shocked by the scores that some answers get on Pointless both high and low - although there must be some margin of error in the results due to people pressing the wrong button or similar as only 97 people recognised the flag of the USA which surely must be the most well known symbol/brand in the world)
