Yes it is more 'standard Marvel film' so far, but I think they had to shuffle the order from what they originally intended because Covid (Wandavision was meant to be shown later as a lead up to Doctor Strange 2), and the Loki series coming after this will probably crank up the WTFometer again hehe . Having one series of flying around with shooting and explosions is fine. Weirdness will be back soon.

It felt very generic compared to the absolute breath of fresh air that Wandavision was.

I get that a lot of people will prefer this approach and due to the way the world has panned out we've not had any bang bang MCU superhero action for a hell of a long time until now, but I think if you're going to be knocking out multiple series alongside multiple movies every year then you have to lean far more towards the sort of thing Wandavision did than Falcon and The Winter Soldier. It was pretty much throwaway telly and if it carries on the same trajectory I think this would have been better as a binge rather than weekly show, there is absolutely nothing to discuss unlike Wandavision.

Maybe it'll take a complete 180 in the next few episodes, but the first one felt far closer to the Netflix shows (or the DC shows), I think Marvel (under the Feige / MCU guise) is much, much better than that.
Obviously Wandavision finished in a completely generic and predictable fashion complete with obligatory sky beam. So not quite delivering on early promise.

They have to gently wean us off the climactic CGI battles and skybeams that we love. smile

True, most of the time that -sadly- has to be an accepted downside of enjoying a good superhero movie. Wonder Woman (the first one) got off remarkably lightly for a horribly generic CGI baddy fight at the end.

I hadn’t watched the ad to the end. Is noobmaster69 the guy trolling Thor’s mate in End Game?
So now, if we want to keep track of the MCU, we have to watch adverts as well?

This is actually quite funny from MS and Marvel, finally the mystery of noobmaster69 is solved.
I'm sure this guy was in the Winter Soldier as well when Captain America and Black Widow go to the computer shop.
It must have been this guy's cousin then that was giving crap to Korg on Fortnight in Endgame.

I didn’t realise it was the same guy. He’s lost a bit of weight.

Good for him.

The thing about the MCU is that it's based on the work of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. What they did was to create multiple references throughout storylines with little siderbars in the comics, referencing various conflicts or interactions between different characters in what appeared to be different stories.

So rather than just huge CGI events in the films, side missions etc, they follow the same sort of pattern by giving 'clues' about why certain characters are being brought into a story, why certain characters have fallen out and won't work together etc etc.

It's about fleshing the story out with details that may be irrelevant at first glance. Usually things are included for a reason, a little like symbolism in painting.

I mean I'm not in that camp, but so what? Comments like these don't really land when you're not surrounded by your back up choir of high school bullies chortling at your genius.

What do you do in your spare time? I bet it's totally LAME.

I don't think anyone was actually having sleepless nights about thinking who that guy was.

It was a funny scene in Endgame due to the absurdity of it, where a alien rockmonster is playing Fortnight, gets trolled by some kid who had that noobmaster69 gaming tag, which then leads Thor to rage at the kid and make him upset.

It was one of the many memorable scenes in the film.

With the advert all they have done is tied it back to the film using the funny gamertag for some clever marketing and continue the joke.

If they never made it I don't think anyone would have actually started a witch-hunt to demand to know who is noobmaster69, most comments I've seen about it are sarcastic.

I really don't understand why people respond to the sort of deliberately triggering comments. All the poster wants to do is cause annoyance and not add anything useful to the discussion.

Some will find it pleasing that Marvel insert clever references and easter eggs for fans to enjoy, some prefer to speculate on whether an Aston or a Porsche would win in a fight.

Glass houses and all that....

Back on topic.

I watched episode two before work today.

I won't go into details, but once again it was a great balance of action and story development. The new Cap isn't entirely what I was expecting and his motivation is currently a bit ambiguous.

I have been avoiding the usual breakdown videos as I don't want spoilers. From the trailers you think you can piece together an outline of the plot, but now I'm not so sure if its going the way I though it would. Very interesting indeed, but I'm trying to manage my expectations a bit following the ultimately disappointing end to Wandavision .

so far, so good.

Just out of curiosity what did you think to the whole Wandavision thing? In all honesty the trailers never grabbed me (to put it mildly) and so I've just not bothered....

There’s a big split with wandavision. I was a big fan along with the Mrs but then didn’t enjoy the first episode of this so guess I was the demographic for it. If you do give it a go you should get 3-4 episodes in before deciding it’s not for you as I know some members found the scene setting was too long.

I loved WondaVision, but I’m surprised how well it worked, and how many people went along with it. The first few episodes do something so unconventional for the MCU that it’s not the same genre. Experimental TV.

On topic: I like the fact that they spent an episode showing the new Captain America as a genuine good guy, an obvious choice for the role. It would have been less credible if he turned out to be a wrong ‘un from the start. I think we see how power and fame corrupt a good man.

I didn’t like the first couple of episodes. I really felt that if you ever rewatched it you’d just skip them.
After that it got interesting sooo many possibilities and couldn’t wait to see what happened next episode.
In the end it failed to live up to my expectations with a generic superhero fight complete with sky beam (never seen that before). The problem isn’t really with the show, but more with my expectations after quicksilver from the xmen showed up. As I said on the thread it could be Marvel trolling us and it was.

Falcon vs winter solider is much more traditional, but better for it. There’s no prospect of some universe shattering, multiple reality event due to the characters, but that’s fine.
The story is interesting and in a way reminiscent of winter solider (probably my favourite MCU movie, which i guess is why I like this) the whole wheels within wheels thing is at least interesting.
In simple terms of action set pieces and effects I don’t recall better on a TV show. I really like the lead actors (especially Anthony Mackie) and find their interaction pretty believable.
