I have gone right off Gordon Ramsay since the series he did with Gino and Fred, where he came across as totally up himself. His cooking is revered, when in actual fact he has neither Marco Pierre White’s majesty, nor does he have Floyd’s style or charisma on screen. And now, to add to it, he’s truly sold out.

Ramsey’s fame started out because he was infamous for being a total prick in the kitchen to his staff. “If you could last a day in Ramsey’s kitchen you could last anywhere”. That has all been forgotten and his swearing has become the source of humor. It doesn’t change the fact he acted like a tt for many years and treated the people that made his original fortune like st.

Absolutely, yet Marco had Ramsay sobbing his heart out.

Isn't that sort of attitude at work pretty frowned upon nowadays? It can very easily turn into pure bullying and isn't a terribly effective way to get good performance from (most)staff anyway. It's always seemed very odd to me to see someone celebrated for it.

The kitchen will always be a stressful/loud environment as you are trying to coordinate many components. in a loud environment, with 3 concurrent timelines per table. All while hiding the chaos behind the closed door from the customer.

The issue with Ramsey was that his unacceptable behaviour was glorified, emulated and caused him to amplify. Screaming abuse at people has never been an inspirational motivation builder. It is just bullying.

Incidentally, I was on TV "with" him on Kitchen nightmares. I did not meet him though but I have to assume he has changed for the better. I just wish the source of his "funny" persona was not rooted in abusing others.

Without actually having worked for or with him, I guess it's difficult to say. But to his credit, he seemed to earn some pretty fierce loyalty from his staff in the early days and helped support the careers of a lot of others who came out of the Ramsay stable over the years, including two of the best female chefs in the UK.

I've certainly seen evidence from some of his earlier shows that he is happy to put time and effort into mentoring young chefs who have passion and drive. On the other hand he is (or rather was) very serious about the restaurant business and had short shrift for owners and chefs who tried to talk the talk but couldn't walk the walk.

There's no doubt that he is an incredibly talented chef but I think he's let his cartoon shouty/angry persona dominate far too much and has also sold out to a huge degree. Which would be fine were it not for the fact he has previously been so dismissive of other 'celebrity' chefs for doing the same thing.
