One thought is that Sean Bean doesn't convince as a mild and meek teacher. I wonder if Martin Clunes was unavailable?
Gripping stuff though. Although the main character's plight was probably enough for the story even without the psycho cellmate and the prison officer's dilemma.
Have you seen him in interviews? He's like watching paint dry. Gripping stuff though. Although the main character's plight was probably enough for the story even without the psycho cellmate and the prison officer's dilemma.

Maybe once back out he just wanted to get on with life and did not want his thoughts and fears out there on the web.
Good luck fella, wherever you are.

I'm still only two episodes in but the thing I seem to take from it, and also from previously talking to people I know who were hovering on the wrong side of the law, is that prison as a punishment only works for those who follow the law and slip up rather than those who are criminals.
I remember reading the 10pence thread before and it was a really powerful bit of writing that could almost be any one on here who enjoys driving or riding.

A friend of mine works as a screw and says the biggest daily problem he deals with is cons nicking food off each other, which also seemed to be highlighted in the show. He also gets a number of threatened suicides off attention seekers who never actually go through with it. As he says, if you intend to kill yourself you aren't going to want anyone to stop you by warning them.

A friend at work did some time a while back, he told me the story about his mate who had his food pinched a few days on the bounce by the same con. Friday was chocolate pudding day, he said to the bully 'here mate, do you fancy half a chocolate pudding?' when the bully replied yes his mate took a big bite out of the bully's chocolate pudding leaving him with about half left. He said the screws had to get in quick to prevent a riot!
this would be my tactics

You didn't like it then? Instead of saying something rather meaningless could you explain why you think as such? But, for starters, the psycho bully who backed down after one punch? Not going to happen.
To be fair, this was never going to work in just 3 episodes.

Er, he didn't back down after one punch. He backed down after his ear was bitten off.
Ok, but he still wouldn’t have backed down IMO, he would have escalated it.Legacywr said:
Look, I can’t put it into words, but I was really disappointed by it, I had been really looking forward to it, feel like I wasted 3 hours

Which implies you'd have been happier to waste 8 or 13 hours with a longer series? Or?In my opinion too many story arcs are spun out over too many episodes. Clearly opinions vary but it's a balancing act. Sometimes you get a single broadcast which felt like it needed a more detailed examination as things seem to be pulled out of thin air. I can't recall anything which wasn't explained, maybe why Stephen Graham's son was inside, but then I might have just forgotten that.
