He said he was concerned about driving home in the rain, so why did he not just leave the car at his workshop?
It did seem a bit odd. If the Lambo was the absolute worst car to take home surely he had another he could have taken?
In the parts of the video shot the following day there only seems to be his green C63 parked outside the unit, which I think he said is currently broken on a video in his Mk2 channel. I don't think all of his cars are at the unit, only the project ones.

I understand that. But this is a channel that rebuilds cars. Not news at 10. My issue is two people on this video (that is only published to generate revenue) are driving, phone wobbling in hand, filming themselves. Is that acceptable?

I have no other issues.
Going by the angle I think his friend's phone was on a mount on his windscreen while he was talking. I'm not sure about the first time we see Hannah but the second time her phone is by the gearlever and you can see her hands on the wheel. I think we can give then the benefit of the doubt.

I think you have completely misunderstood what he was saying. The Audi engine blew at high revs shortly after being remapped. Was the remap the cause of the failure? Maybe it was but mat took 100% of the blame himself rather than suggest the map contributed to it.
That's the one

You know those tests aren't done with the tyres up to temp right? They're done from a cold start. Secondly, in those tests the track is usually sopping wet with puddles. Doh!

Also Cup2Rs are even softer and more aggressive than AR1s - and they seemed to do pretty well by your own graphs - because they are so soft they get up to temp very rapidly.

I've driven AR1s at Spa and the Nurburgring amongst others in the wet (no puddles) in a car with no ABS/TC/DSC - once warmed up they were very good - but what do I know hey.

Don't be coming on this thread with your direct personal experience when someone just googled....a chart!

And yes Semi slicks can be decent in the wet. The Dunlops on my GT4 are brilliant much better than the Cup2 in wet conditions but neither like the cold. That said the Cup2 are absolutely lethal in cold weather the dunlops I used through this winter no problem. As you say 888s are great actually an underated tyre they are good as an all year in this country just need a little bit of caution in cold. Many race teams use AO52 as a wet tyre now too.

I'm the summer months most modern semis will be fine in the wet. It's all about getting heat into them which they will have any time from now until October.

My Gallardo was a handful in the moderate damp, with half the power and twice the driven wheels. They are spiky little devils when they want to be.

I expect the moment the thing came on boost it was a foregone conclusion. I do feel for Mat, he's no doubt feeling a bit daft but taken it like a champ IMHO.

Those charts tyre charts might actually be from one of my tests, I didn't look too deeply but I will say this.

When we're wet testing tyres, it's nearly always at unrealistic wet temperatures. I did some research with Michelin and the average wet day in Europe is under 7c and due to us testing in the summer in warm climates, we're usually testing wet at 25c+.

There can be a huge amount of difference in tyre performance between these temps, so I would say the wet testing is usually pretty warm. For wet braking we're doing around 10 stops in quick succession so generating some heat, and the wet testing even with 1mm water depth (a good puddle) we can generate pretty good heat in all but semi slicks (as we're aquaplaning too much.)

I'm not actually sure why you're arguing about tyre temps but here's some data.

Also for road tyres, I'm trying really hard to do wet testing at cooler temperatures to better represent real world conditions as I'm sure some tyre companies are tuning their compound to do well at test conditions to win tests, but then they're rubbish in the real world. As of yet I can't control the weather so it's a bit hit and miss.

The level of cynicism on this thread is another level.
I think you’ll find that’s a result of their bullst videos, clickbait titles, and general fakery that’s invaded every channel like this now. Most of its bks so no wonder no one believe them. It’s just like the kardashians etc

What sort of money is he making on c.2m views in 24 hours?
It’s obviously not just the YT revenue; he must be receiving significant sums from his sponsors given the number of views/subscribers.

So Mat Armstrong has responded to the rumours on his instagram, yeah there may be a small rebuild incoming on his Gallardo.
Just watching it now, he was lucky to not be injured. Cars can be repaired/replaced, glad he’s ok. Be interesting to see what he does with it, can see it being rebuilt.
Not that it would've made a huge difference to the incident but interesting he's got it on Nankang AR1 semi slicks on the rear and Michelin PS4S on the front. AR1s are pretty good in the wet - just not when they're cold.
Ideal tyres for cold wet April driving on public roads then ?

They actually are when up to temp as I pointed out - obviously assuming there's no standing water.

AR1s specifically, are good because they are soft, R888Rs are a bit better again. N1 Cup2s are atrocious by contrast.

This is all personal actual experience on road and track. Maybe try it.

Any puddles changes the calculus obviously and just in case you have trouble reading again, they have to be up to temp.
Nope, you are simply talking BS. They are not good in the wet regardless of their temps.

Maybe Matt needs to jump into the official winter tyres thread ?!

I watched TDC finishing the Porsche earlier, BC coilovers, ditchfinders and a trip to the ring all ticked off.

Jack was in the background working on the 924 they built on CT so guessing that will be going

However I will not be watching another ring or Bruges trip video.

I was just about to say the same the 924 was in the back ground with Jack so its a Porsche road trip to the ring from other socials.

I will say I admire his professionalism in managing to segue into a CarVertical ad whilst walking down the side of the road and talking about the accident…

…but that ability to deliver the sponsor’s message in the same breath, and tone, as the main content does make one less accepting of the presenter. A lot of Mat’s appeal is in his personality and everyman veracity. The more the scripted promotional stuff becomes indistinguishable in tone and delivery from the main event, the more it encourages viewers to be suspicious of everything else.

Maybe it would be better to treat it in the way, say, Linus Tech Tips does it, with a separately-recorded sponsor message to draw a distinction between the content and the advert?

That’s not to take anything away from Mat’s terrific levels of professionalism and commitment to his channel. However much you think could, having the presence of mind to get filming right there in the moment, at that time in the morning, is definitely something.

Surely this can't have been their master plan? Surely they haven't spent this long planning and teasing these new presenters and channels just to rehash the same old formats? Is that annoying bloke going to drive their cars on the track while they all exaggerate how much fun they are having again?

Wow! Some comments from people are crazy in here. I knew I wasn’t going to win either way but I didn’t realise people would think it was a fake crash!

Filming wise it’s just a natural thing. If you put yourself in my shoes 5days a week I get up have breakfast and I’m instantly behind a camera until very late in the evening. The only days I’m not is when I’m editing. So when anything happens good or bad your natural instinct after 5 years of doing this is just to immediately film. Same for my team and my partner. Don’t get me wrong if I was burning alive I’m sure they wouldn’t have been filming (but if I survived afterwards they know I would of asked them if they filmed it haha) but both of them knew I was fine before arriving.

I can tell you for free AR1’s are terrible in the wet. Slight bit of sitting water and your aquaplaining. It’s not an excuse and everyone makes mistakes but no one was hurt and I’ve learned from it. But for sure I’ve had every pro driver in the comments haha

No need to over-egg it. You've clearly got the attention you wanted.

They definitely need to make an effort to differentiate between the channels (there's also the 'v2' channel within the group) so it is not just the same sort of content but with different main presenters (and the same comrades in the background).

I quite like 996 though. It would be good to see a road trip to somewhere new but I understand that a ring trip is 'easy' and good for views.

Maybe the 'all the gear' channel might widen their horizons.

It may well develop over time but if I was looking to set up the empire Alex has, you'd want to have a business hat on and work out what the niche of each channel will be.

Eg. one doing dirt cheap purchase/rebuild/rag
One doing sympathetic oem style restoration perhaps
One with features on modern cars/reviews etc etc

Otherwise it will get confusing quickly with the amount of crossover and viewer fatigue will set in 3x as fast.

Still, I've given them a sub as they are ultimately nice guys and I would like to see them do well. The intro video did remind me a bit of The Fast Show's "Brilliant" guy

I suspect the follow up will be a trip to Scotland, not sure why but something is not clicking for me with TDC I am not a fan of Will if I am honest, Ed would be better with Jack and Ethan.
