Good grief you really are quite tiresome. We get it, you have thing against Shmee. I'm no huge fan of his content, very rarely watch it. But I was having a look at his SLS Black Series at the Scramble and commented on how good the paint was to my pal and Shmee said "thanks!" next to me. Didn't know he was there and he just started chatting about it.
Incidentally, the paint on that SLS BS is possibly the best I've ever seen on a car, from Rolls Royces to full custom show cars. Oustanding and very beautiful to behold.

.
I thought it was quite clear he's clearly a bored child so most people just ignored him?.

Not a fan of his video style personally so rarely watch his output, but having almost 3 million subscribers on Youtube would tend to suggest otherwise?
I think Jason is talking about the insufferable Cakey Pig rather than Shmee. Unless Shmee has personally wronged Cakey Pig, I really can't understand how he can feel so strongly about him.
It's a really weird and creepy obsession.

It'll be interesting to see what sort of revenue numbers he's pulling with his car auction site because the car market everywhere is in a death spiral, and we're not seeing the high value transactions we saw during COVID times.
A majority holding of cars and bids was bought in 2023 for $37 million by a private equity group - Doug then went and bought a Carrera GT - so he clearly did OK out of that deal. Discendo Discimus said:

Agree with you, all very odd and lets be honest clearly driven by jealousy as otherwise don't really see much else to get in any way offended by. Such an ugly emotion..

I've never watched a Shmee video, doesn't seem like the kind of thing I'd be interested in (before Cakey thinks I'm sucking up to him or whatever)

James spotted out in the wild!
It baffles me when people don't upload in 4K to Youtube - the bitrate at "1080p" is woeful, and any camera nowadays can record in 4k.Sure Youtube 4k isn't actually 4k, but you get a MUCH better bitrate and it doesn't look like you're watching through soap.
I won't link my channel here, but I've created around 300 long form videos. If they were in 4K, each episode would be around 100-150GB in storage. My completed Japan episode (25 mins in length) was around 60GB (excluding raw files). On my Internet connection (38 Mbps down/8 Mbps up), it took around 17 hours to upload. I release a video every week; this would be a nightmare!
Most of the time 1080P is fine. My content doesn't suffer from not being in 4K, especially as the majority of my audience is watching on mobiles. I don't think my HD footage is that bad either, but that might just be due to lighting etc. It looks as though the linked channel is new, so with only 7 videos behind them, they'll still be learning a lot, as James says ...
I do plan to upgrade my two 8TB drives to something more substantial, and I'll more than likely upgrade to Swish fibre that allows 400Mbps (or 900Mbps!) up/down. However, it's all an expense ... and when it's not currently a full time job, it's worth keeping overheads to a minimum

Kudos to the guy thats re doing the whole wiring loom on the Tavarish P1 that's a monumentally big job!
I know they are friends but it's like role reversal on the views, I remember the first videos on this car when he would pull 1m in 12 hours, now Mat is doing that and it seems to be much slower up take on his channel, maybe the build has just gone on too long. jonwm said:

BMW is another brand that's going to struggle in the age of electric.
Why did we love them anyway? I give good odds it has to do with gorgeous straight six engines, rear wheel drive, classic styling and a driver focused interior.
What of that have they got left? And what do they now offer that you couldn't get in any other EV?

I'd put money on the fact a very high % of people buy a BMW because it has a BMW badge.

It is interesting but to me they seemed to have turned it into a massive project when I think it would have been easier to just have a new harness made, splicing 2 other harnesses together and adding extra parts seems like hard work, Mclaren would use off the shelf plugs and enough specialists available to make a new harness plus cannot see it costing as much.At the end of the day Mclaren would not make the harnesses in house so someone will have the information needed to make a new one plus you could then remove the parts not required.

I think it comes back down to the usual point of yes it would have been easier to buy a harness from McLaren (or some other third party), but you wouldnt be able to stretch that out into a youtube episode, and this car needs to earn its keep.Given the sheer amount of work involved in the two into one harness build, and that most (all?) the work is being done by a third party who is presumably being paid a fair bit for his expertise from a pure cost perspective there cant be a huge amount between the two options.
I'm sure he said in one of the videos that a new harness from McLaren would be about 20k and would take up to a year for delivery, as they're made to order. I presume that the third party company making them has a commercial contract with McLaren which precludes them from selling directly to customers.
Also, doing that would still mean he'd have to modify the new loom to make the changes he needs, so it would end up taking far longer and be more expensive than what he's doing now.
