Haven't seen mentioned here before but enjoying these weekly episodes of a week as a car dealer (Shifting Metal). Likable chap and interesting content.

I must admit I look forward to the episodes, almost like a fly on the wall documentary

Nothing sensational, just the ups/downs of trying to run a small business and keep his wife in horses smile

Another one I like is auto shenanigans where the chap just goes around looking at roads/journeys and how they’ve changed using an old guide book, much like portillo on the railways

His humour i find very enjoyable too

jayemm89 On the subject of your jazz review you may want to try the rare 1.5 i vtec sport manual with its 128bhp & sub 9 sec 0-60 that was sold in the UK hehe

I live in Barton on Sea in Hampshire, i believe it has the oldest average age in the UK, and the Honda Jazz is everywhere, literally. Sometimes upside down on a quiet residential road , or embedded in the window of the local Chemist.

Got round to watching the 996 revival episode of TDC. I liked it a lot. Little more relaxed than other leading brands.

It is amazing how many cars owned by pensioners malfunction and smash into shops or multi-storey car parks. They were honestly pushing the brake as hard as they could, yet the car just kept accelerating.

It doesn't matter that the mechanism for the accelerator and braking is not linked at all, it definitely malfunctioned.

My grandad was once driving across the farm yard on a quad bike, my stepdad drove into the yard in our Isuzu trooper and my grandad, instead of braking accelerated, smashed into the front of it and threw himself up onto the bonnet of the truck. My stepdad was rather surprised biggrin

Unexpected upload from CarThrottle

Couple of new guys hosting, though they have briefly featured on the channel in the distant past.

They confirm quite early on that 'the guys have moved on'.

Fair play, they do address it all up front and even take the piss out of themselves a bit.

I'll give it a watch fully and see.

Really don't think it was that bad. Obviously CT is going off in a different direction, but thought it was decent enough that they acknowledged it.

Just watching Saving Salvage and he is at it now. "Engine very bad" with some kind of Yoda inflection. Armstrong started this trend, now it is spreading. Just stop!

Well you’ve saved me some time then as I think that saying is very childish, it goes with the idiots who write simples or job jobbedIMO.

I find it very cynical the raffling off these rebuilt crashed cars if I'm honest, maybe even bordering on treating the viewer/supporter with contempt, even Tom/TGE peddling any tat and scalping opportunities to his viewers to Archies method;
.
On the subject of TGE. I watch his videos out of habit now because I used to enjoy them but he seems to have just given up entirely.

There is zero soul or humour to his videos anymore. It used to be exciting when he was at a dealership as he may actually buy something. Like when he spontaneously bought a brand new Aston Martin Vantage AMR from Edinburgh then took it to the South of France.
You cannot continue to create content by just buying, wrapping, modding, selling etc really as Harry, James, Tim and Sam have shown you really need to travel, have contacts and a couple of nice cars you own to use for traveling and to fill in.

Credit where credit's due, Tim has been growing and getting consistent views for ten years or more and in the last few years has spent his time living out of a suitcase and hotel rooms, just him and his girlfriend, Sam and James not that far behind really. it's not so much about the cars but the adventure and accompanying stories, like old Top Gear/Grand Tour it wasn't so much about the cars, but you the viewer being part of it.

STG’s output had really dropped as of late. Not sure if that’s linked to the recent family issues. But since Christmas only the Challenge Stradale content has been worth watching. But the last vid was cack. Just a rinse and repeat of what he did with the Modena.
The travel content (Aus and America) has just been weak. But given the circumstances il cut him some slack.

I agree about STG. Even the podcast, which I actually enjoy, has gotten stale of late. And his Maserati and Mustang reviews were bizarre because his audience doesn't care for content like this so who's the target audience?

In general, all the 'original' automotive UK YouTubers seem to have run their course and aren't attracting new viewers. Fair play to them for trying out different content ideas, but I don't know if that's going to work. Younger viewers are sticking to TikTok for their content.

The answer is consistency - most viewers know what to expect when they click on videos from most other channels where the content is usually the same format/formula. Think of it as a warm comfort blanket where they can disengage their brain after a hard day at work.

For example most people won't tune in to Hollyoaks and enjoy it if they did a reenaction of Homes Under the Hammer. In STG's case he hyperactively jumps from one concept to another every single week and for many viewers it's hard to follow and there's no penalty for missing a video as none of them are part of a longer series, so there's no ups and downs, jeopardy or any other emotional triggers to pull on the heart strings. At least the podcast has remained enjoyable because you got to see the relationship between himself and Tony grow but it's becoming a bit repetitive. I hope they can pick it up because they're the last of the of the OG youtubers I still watch.

There's a reason why there's 10 billion automotive channels doing similar car rebuild series because they try to hook you in from the first episode and you're already invested in seeing the outcome of the repair and you're less likely to skip future episodes.

When you think about it it's quite remarkable that these guys have stayed popular for 10 years. If you look at traditional media Top Gear was rested and/or had lineup changes through it's life to get it going again and keep it relevant. There's only so much these guys can do and they will all have a finite shelf life. Hopefully they are all exit planning and just enjoying the success whilst it's there.

I feel that over the last 2 years we've already seen the first wave of audience fatigue in this genre as the "blogger" is dead. Just seeing the cars on screen isn't enough to keep people engaged. The guys doing engaging reviews are ok as there are always new cars coming out but those not really known for doing reviews are going to struggle to keep coming to with stuff to do. It's certainly hard to envisage this format ever getting massive views.

The above is true. I do hope he finds his mojo again. But for me Tony puts me off the podcast.

The only format for me which just works is Harry and his Garage. Even though the format is rather repetitive. I just can’t see it getting old. There’s just enough variation with the bike, restoration, travel and auction content. And all that metal in the garage and there isn’t a hint of arrogance. Which is something STG doesn’t always pull off.

Yeah Harry does have a diverse channel. His own cars are obviously numerous and there's always a pretty big project ongoing with them. Add in the travel and reviews it's mixing things up really well.

Agreed. The new guys will take some getting used to, especially the taller one, but fair play, will continue to sub to them.
