I think you pay sales tax on used cars in the States, even on private sales.
I live in South Carolina and this is true.Property Tax is on cars is sort of the equivalent of Road Tax (or isn't it Road Fund License technically)....anyway Property Tax is on some sort of sliding scale on cars up to 10 years old. After 10 years old its about $10 per year. Brand new cars its several hundred I think (I don't buy new cars).

Fair play to STG for giving an honest review / opinion of the 5 series electric he was given on loan. Not sure BMW will be over the moon….
Seems like their top of the range electric performance car is utterly forgettable BMW is another brand that's going to struggle in the age of electric.
Why did we love them anyway? I give good odds it has to do with gorgeous straight six engines, rear wheel drive, classic styling and a driver focused interior.
What of that have they got left? And what do they now offer that you couldn't get in any other EV?

It all to do with the business-people using leased cars I think, they don't care about the cost and it's not their problem at the end when a three year old car that cost £100k new is now worthless, I say worthless because it might seem like a good deal to buy this car for £30k but IF something does go wrong it's going to cost a fortune to fix and you will only be able to get BWM to fix it.Why did we love them anyway? I have said for ages, the people with the most to gain from EV's is poorer people, they don't do many miles and it is cheaper to charge the cars up, but they need to be cheap, there should be a Fiesta sized car with 200 mile range for £20k MAX price, but there isn't.
I looked at a Renault Zoe but the cost to "rent" the battery for a month cost about the same as I was and am paying for petrol, but I would NEVER gain anything back due to the high price of the car in the first place.
Business people who are taking advantage of the tax breaks of EV's are the people that earn enough money not to need tax breaks, instead of car manufactures having to sell an EV for every petrol car they sell, it should be every one of those £100k BMW EV's they sell they have to give a base Mini EV to a poor person!

Poorer people often don't have anywhere to reliably and regularly park their car and thus have no ability to charge 'at home'... This is a massive problem for which there is no fix on the horizon, until an electric car is offered that can be topped up in under 5 minutes.Voldemort said:

Met Shmee today at the Bicester Heritage Sunday Scramble
He was there with his SLS Black Series and his girlfriend. Nice guy, spent a lot of time talking to anyone that stopped him.

I know I am pretty much in a minority of one here, but James is "living the dream" surely?
He has a couple of very nice specced cars but other than that, gets some amazing gigs, with little if any cost to himself other than time!
I personally think it must get insanely boring. He has a couple of very nice specced cars but other than that, gets some amazing gigs, with little if any cost to himself other than time!
I bet the first time you do it, whether because you're a YouTuber or you've earned the money it's a fantastic experience.
But once you've done it a few times it must really wear off.
I often wonder if that's why you see cars like the Pista where they have been specced with like bright yellow exterior and blue interior etc. Because the buyers have had every normal specced Ferrari under the sun and want a spec that may excite them again.

I'd put money on the fact a very high % of people buy a BMW because it has a BMW badge.

He has become so terrible, I can't watch any review of a new car as he spends 25 minutes going through every menu on the infotainment system.
Dreadful stuff.
I agree, and all his reviews are for cars on his auction site. His podcast is even worse. He comes across as someone who thinks he's superior to other YouTube automotive personalities.Dreadful stuff.
It'll be interesting to see what sort of revenue numbers he's pulling with his car auction site because the car market everywhere is in a death spiral, and we're not seeing the high value transactions we saw during COVID times.

I’ve been working on something so massive the vlogs take a few intermittent breaks while we prepare to launch - it will all make sense soon!'
Coincidentally, Darren has just started a new company, with a property developer and film producer, called Gumball Heist. It operates in the motion picture, television, and other theatrical casting industries.
