Jayemm88. Loved your porsche Cayenne video. Im currently looking for a good one myself. So, come on, why you selling it after 2 or 3 weeks ? Fuel costs ?

Also, how much was the service ?:-)

Simon
Hi Simon

I'm not selling it. It is currently in for service, present estimate is 3-4k which comprises:

Major service
Two new lower arms
New latch for the boot
New struts for the boot
New buzzer for the dash
Air oil separators (the suspected cause of the smoke)

Ad blocking is utterly cretinous, you’re effectively stealing someone’s income.

When you go to the supermarket do you stuff a few extras in your pockets because ‘Asda makes enough profit it’.
One tiny difference - one of these things is illegal, the other one isn't. If Asda said "payment is optional" at the checkout - what would you do?

We all know the answer.

Nobody is disagreeing that blocking ads is bad for creators.

This is an absolutely ridiculous thing to say. YT is a free resource, like ITV, Sky and all of the other channels out there other than the BBC. The people working in YT are making money or it’s a past time, hobby or whatever, but the ads are not part of the viewing enjoyment, the content is. Why do viewers have to watch adverts on any medium? The answer is they don’t.

In the end it’s the ads that will kill YT. Sometimes a 30 second vid will have 30 secs of ads - what a waste of time, especially when the thumb nail gives 20 secs or free viewing anyway.

The worst thing for me is ads, in video ads, part way through ads and content providers that don’t get to the point. All that we have on this earth is time, decreasing time. Spending time watching unrelated adverts is a waste of time.
ITV - Ad supported
SKY - Subscription and ad supported
BBC - Licence payer supported
Youtube - Subscription and ad supported

Surely, you understand that for *decent* Youtube content, this has to be monetised otherwise you'll log on one day and there will be nothing there.

It seems you feel entitled to watch top quality content produced by someone for free. I hope you're a tradesperson as I'd like to book you in.
I'm pretty sure YT could easily code in its own blocker, which would prevent content been displayed if they detected a browser/device that was using an Adblocker. AdBlockers aren't illegal. They're good for privacy as well.

YouTube ads are crazy . I don't really watch much now as Tiktok doesn't have ads the same as YouTube. Their model seems better.

Agree - but browsers with built-in blockers etc appear to be less of a concern. I've used Brave since it's early days across many platforms with solid success. Nothing stolen from me yet.... that i know of anyway.

To keep the thread on track, YT wouldn't be so bad if the adverts were actually of interest or related to the video you're watching.

I've used a few products/services I've seen advertised in YT videos. I've also taken advantage of the discount codes offered too.

I even bought some Y food, but my wife called me a credulous buffoon. frown

If anyone is interested in automotive vloggers, I have just got back into making videos about bangernomics and racing. This is my most recent video about buying a 600 pound BMW 325 in Scotland and bringing it to Prague. I have a second video scheduled for the end of the week that goes through the process of getting the car ready to go racing. https://youtu.be/59JNYEjQQXI

I am looking for feedback as well if anyone has any critiques.

Of course, ironically if you didn't block so much information in your browser the ad's would be more targeted hehe

1. Not so good for creators.

2. Give it time - the platform is working as a loss-leader and hoping to get users over, once they have it will go hard on advertising

I've subbed smile

On the basis of adverts and revenue, I do currently use adblockers because I can't stand adverts, but I do appreciate they're a necessary evil.

Ultimately though I watch so much YouTube that I should probably just sub to premium and be done with it.

In terms of that though, I know some people use a VPN and another account to sign up for under £2 a month, but to be honest I'd be happy enough to consider paying full price if it meant the content creators get a better share as a result.

Saves arsing about with other accounts, finding addresses to register your card to, having issues renewing if a card expires or risking having it closed down (not a big risk really but could still be a pain).

However I'm assuming it wouldn't really make a difference to the amount the creators get or does it?

I personally don’t have a problem with ads per-se, however I am sick and tired of that bloke who had his pension nicked by the watersports scammer! It got to a point that it was on 3/4 times in a 20m YT vid and can’t skip the 20secs either!.

Different ads each time I can live with, but the same one time and time again in a short period, arrrggghh....

It got so bad (joking here wink that I was sick of his voice/ad to the extent that I’m glad he had his pension nicked biggrin (yeah I know it’s prob and actor/not real etc….)

Out of interest, will you have the latter attended to first? So if that’s not the cause and something more terminal then you won’t have wasted money on the other stuff?

That's amazing.

I tend to zone out during the ads, but now you mention that one I can recall his voice very clearly.

I know Tim is not well liked here, but the guy who designed the (recent) Ford GT has some things to say about Tim and his car spec, at the end of this video.

It is truly annoying, I get fed up with him saying when called out of the blue offering a free pension review I was all ears, I now tend to hit mute everytime now.

Not an ad I am aware of - either I am better at tuning the ads out, or (more likely) the ads are personalised to the viewer and I have not been searching or looking at anything to do with pensions.

Same here, no idea what advert everyone is on about, I'm quite bored of hearing about squarespace though, they're on almost every channel I watch be it cars, camping anything.
Their marketing budget must be pretty sizeable!

A great example of a car that might have had more impact if the marketing team hadn't decided the best plan was to sell as many as possible to social media gimps.

Spends fortunes of other people’s money on automotive exotica but his clothes don’t fit and has a ten bob haircut …
