The U.K. would have won this time if it wasn’t for the war but overall good contest.
Obviously it's impossible to prove, but i suspect UK would have been mid table without the war in Ukraine.

Politics is always at play in this event. Germany and France are in for a kicking for years.

Still amused by the kicking Australia got.

Did they not give us any points because Channel 5 have cancelled Neighbours?

They completely misjudged it with their song and performance. Just 2 points from the Televote, only Switzerland came lower with no points.

Perhaps they should consider entering Stefan Dennis next year, I imagine he will have a bit of time on his hands soon.
I’d argue it’s not because of the song, it’s the public vote so perception matters and Europes perception is surely Australia is not in Europe!

We kept the TV on after the football and kinda got sucked into it - it was the first time the person I was with had seen it (she’s only 35 laugh ) but it was brilliant! Really enjoyed the whole show and if Ukraine hosts it here next year I’d certainly try and get tickets.

So, Moldova 14 points from juries, 239 from the public..... scratchchin
I voted for Moldova.... Twice. I've voted on previous years and you'd hear Graham saying congratulations for voting for x but this time I just heard some beeps. Weird.

We watched the singing for the first time in at least a decade, but sort of knowing what the results would be, we could not stay up for the results show.

It seems odd that they do not try to have a bouncy ball over lyrics as sub-titles so at least viewers can get the gist of the sentiment of the songs. I liked the French entry - very Chemical Brothers, but what was it about? The woes of Bretton fishermen post Brexit?

We really could not understand how the presenters were chosen, Mika has singing talent, but, like the other two, was completely wooden. Thank heavens for Graham Norton.

Presumably, the Ukrainian event will be hosted in the UK next year? Lets hope they put on a good show.

I heard his voice when I voted for Greece.

So politics got UK into 2nd place then, not the song?

Frankly, I was idly watching, I thought the Brit entry was Iceland. It was dire but maybe not the worst of the lot.

Maybe it was because the UK entry had gone full Euro baby, and had given up on trying to do a decent song.

Nevermind, I missed the voting as I was driving home, but to get a Ukraine, England was a nice feeling smile

Jury votes from 6 countries were removed and replaced with aggregate scores after irregular voting patterns https://www.ladbible.com/entertainment/six-nationa...

Only watched the songs, couldn't sit through all the dull voting.

Wanted Norway to win with Give That Wolf a Banana.

Yum Yum!

But the UK entry was a superb second.
So what happened there?

We are usually at the bottom of the table. This year's entry was banal to the extreme and yet we came second.

Has there been a political shift that has made us popular suddenly?

At risk of being all "Emperor's New Clothes":

Eurovision is rubbish, isn't it?

Ukraine got the sympathy vote. Understandable, but nothing to do with songs. That were numerous, bit unmemorable - other than the novelty acts and what was that Serbian thing?

Maybe a lot of voters confused UK with UKraine?

-I'm not sure that the UK song signified any sort of coming in from the cold due to anything war-like Truss and Johnson have said -how many Euro people pay attention? Maybe Tiktok is quite pervasive, even for bland Europop?

I'm sure that the right wing press will seize upon it as such.

It was obvious UK would do well after leading the support of Ukraine when it mattered.
Did we? I didn’t really realise that we had stood out in our response. Cool.

The UK hasn't been this popular since 1945, don't worry we'll reclaim the title as most hated nation from Germany again soon enough.
