Yes we did and still are.

UK has been the most involved politically and militarily in all of Europe to help Ukraine and have applied huge pressure on laggers like Germany.

Just this week UK signed a treaty with Sweden and Finland to support them militarily in a transition into NATO membership should Russia carry out the threats they are making should they do that.

Right this minute the PM and Prime Minister of Finland are holding a press conference declaring they are pressing ahead with a NATO application.

Quite, Germany has promised little and delivered less.

ETA
To Ukraine that is.

They're still managing to send lots of cash to Russia each week.

Jury votes from 6 countries were removed and replaced with aggregate scores after irregular voting patterns https://www.ladbible.com/entertainment/six-nationa...
When I first heard about this I assumed it was irregularities with the public votes. Irregularities with the jury votes sounds far more intriguing.

Yes. And?

It's a bit of kitsch fun; a bit of light-hearted frivolity. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Yep, it’s a bit of fun once a year. I enjoyed it last night, especially the Italian entry.

Didn't it used to be more serious? Back in the day when Bucks Fizz won it? If so, when did the rot set in, and was it an intentional plan?

Why do Eurovision casuals seem to be so negative towards it? I don't think it has ever been a 'serious' and 'pure' contest where only the quality of the song matters?

Serious? Bucks Fizz? - it's hardly Karlheinz Stockhausen getting his chopper out in the name of art.

It was obvious UK would do well after leading the support of Ukraine when it mattered.

If Ukraine was such a deciding issue, why didn't the juries give Ukraine more points? We got plenty in the jury votes but Ukraine was on the right hand side of the table until the massive public vote took it to the top.

Indeed, it was Moldova that jumped the most significantly after the public vote.

Pure snobbery. And a desire to prove how superior they are.

I pity them.

To be honest before last night I'd never followed Eurovision because I have always known that it isn't 'fair'. I feel I picked the right year to watch though! Enjoyed it.

To be fair, the politics of it is as much fun as the music itself. We all know it happens and wait for the inevitable Greece/Cyprus stitch up but that’s Eurovision and it would be a poorer place if it didn’t happen.

Great thing now is that the new scoring system places less emphasis on the jury votes and the public get a look in which we saw with great effect yesterday. The official juries only scored Ukraine an average amount of points basing it presumably on the quality of the song itself but the general public voted with sentiment and gave them a record amount or points leading to them winning.

The public also liked the batst mental songs that scored poorly by the juries like Serbia and Moldova and that means that there’s a solid place for mentalists going forward and that can only be a good thing. A Eurovision filled with ballads would be awful and this new scoring system will help prevent that.

Bring on 2023!

Presumably the Ukrainian folk song their entry is based on is older, but their entry reminds me of Beggin', which there have been several versions of.

Hmmm. Interesting......

PS. I called the top 2 way back in February and got some very good odds. Happy days.

PPS. How ste was the Australian entry?! Pretentious, campy crap that might have got all the attention 15 years ago, but everyone has moved on now. st song, st singer, st outfit, st staging and st performance. Germany were done coming last to that complete pap.

Well. quite. The batst mental stuff is half the fun of it. smile
